Where\'s the best hiking “We are going to The Penobscot, Kennebec & Dead Rivers and I am wondering if there are "must do" trails that are a must? Thanks, TrailPacker” 6:50:50 AM 6/15/05 “twigeater is the Maven Of Maine........The Kween Of Katahdin. I haven't seen her post in a while.” 7:17:51 AM 6/15/05 “I've hiked some in Baxter State Park, and hiked the Maine AT... it almost all fantastic. Highlights for me were the area around Saddleback, Gulf Hagas, and Grafton Notch State Park (and into Mahoosuc notch). Until someone like Twigeater, who knows the hiking in Maine much better than I do, posts you might check this out (it might give you some ideas that are more convenient to your intended route): http://www.maineoutdoors.com/hiking/hike_info_trails.shtml last edited: 6/15/05 8:01:12 AM” 8:00:57 AM 6/15/05 “any of the 100 mile wildernes. you can get a shuttle in millinockett or monson and do a portion of the 100 miles.” 2:33:40 PM 6/15/05 “I really liked Saddleback. The Bigelows are pretty sweet, too. Since you'll be on the Kennebeck - Pierce Pond Lean-to is about 3.7 miles south of the Kennebeck River on the AT. The shelter sits right on the pond and has wonderful sunsets. If you want an easy hike to a great spot, this would surely suffice. Not an exspansive mountaintop view, but still nice. I remember the skeeters being pretty bad in early July last year. Take a bug bivy. last edited: 6/15/05 4:41:23 PM” 4:32:25 PM 6/15/05 You lucky dog!!! “Maine is probably the most beautiful eastern state. I love going there to hike, to backpack, and to just sit there and look at that place. From Acadia to Baxter--man, it just doesn't get any better in the East.” 5:35:17 PM 6/15/05
