I've been bitten!
HELP! how do you keep the bugs off? (seriously here)
The mosquitos and noseeums in this area are sooo terrible and I think I'm allergic to their bites. Yesterday, I was out and about just in town and today have an exorbitant amount of bites. Any hints for keeping them off (asside from commercial bug sprays) and then for healing the bites once I have them???

Try using After Bite on the bug bites. It helps, at least with the itching.

bugs like Trolls, that is why you see them buzzing around them all the time

Fleet brand hemrhoid pads take the swelling away in a few minutes (works for bugs and irritation from shaving). Not kidding, really does work. Doesn't have the smell of Preparation H, either. Although the H would work for bites, too. Any of the anti-inflammatory creams/pads will work on regular skin too. It has shark liver oil, which is the active ingredient. That's been used for thousands of years for home remedies. I like the Fleet brand because it doesn't have the shark oil smell like Prep H.

And no, I don't have 'roids! :-)

great teip techntrek...
to stop the itching immediately...press the lighted end of a cigar to the big bite. It will stop itching upon contact. If you don't smoke, then use extremely hot water out of the tap or in the shower. good luck.

Thanks, Ya'll
Thanks Lumberzax and Techntrek. I appriciate the advice.
Stikmon, I'm not quite sure if I should take you seriously as I already have enough burn scars, but still, I appriciate that you took the time to write it out.
And Ewker, you've been listening to Sarge too long.

When its bad I wear a bug suit (http://community.webshots.com/photo/66108618/66108674ezCNoo ) and spray with OFF! (can't use Deet). I also use Premethrin on my clothes.

IMPORTANT: Carry Preparation H for the bites. Apply a dab of it to the bite as soon as you feel the bite (and DON'T scratch). It stops swelling and itching (as advertised).

Interesting advice on hemerhoid stuff.

Sawyer Broad Spectrum for the skin and permethrin for the clothing.

I know that meat tenderizer is supposed to work on bee stings.. does anyone know if it works on mosquito bites as well?
Used to use calamine lotion as a kid, but then you look like an idiot with a gazillion pink dots on you... :-)

so...from now no I have to carry prep H with me? cream or the other stuff??

If I am unlucky my mosquito bites swell up football size...so it may not be a bad idea.

They do not like me very much thou, so I don't get bitten very much.

You are lucky Gem, the mosquitos love me.

I remember calamine lotion too, but it never really got rid of the itch... it just made you look cool. (or really silly depending on your pov.)

I've also heard of taking garlic pills or eating a cart load of garlic. any ideas on this being anything other than a wives tale?

Bugs like me too. One time I had a really dark tan, lots of bites and lots of pink spots to cover each one. Looked really stupid, especially the bites on my forehead.

Prep H gets rid of the itch as long as you put it on and don't scratch. Once you scratch its all over.

I heard Vitamin B works, but don't remember which one.

there's clear calamine lotion at CVS
I was eaten up for the past two years whether camping or hanging on the front porch- I had better success this year with cortizone creams after and organic oil bug deterants like "outback" which I used years ago, lost, then found again once I moved from NY to TN.

my kids came back from summer camp [scouts] looking really bad. Cameron had a zillion bites I think, even in his face. Bryan had to go to the camp nurse because he had a spider bite.

mosquito bites, one spider bite, chiggers, and a couple tick bites.

They have the deet, but ya think the would remember to put the stuff on? NAAAAA!!

Cameron had a headache today...hmm...got to watch it, but I think he didn't drink enough water today.

I normally use the benadryl cream, but the seam to like the chiggerex better.
