lyra, you're spidey sense is wrong. i'm a true romantic. were i not i would have suggested "goodbye cruel world" or "waiting for the worms"

all things considered, i believe that 'run like hell' is probably the best choice.

wouldn't you agree?

OK, you say it's the bride's day. A lot of grooms don't have much to do with weddings. I don't know how much or how little Opie is involved, but it seems kinda cool he's interested in the song choice.

doubtful liz, he's prolly just pretending to give a rats ass in hopes of better sex on the honeymoon.

I have known a lot of grooms that wanted to be involved with the planning of the wedding. Of course, most men dont care, but by all means if they do, they should be able to have an opinion. It takes two to get married, right?

I'm getting married in one year and one week from today. :)) We'll likely go with Nora Jones' "Come Away With Me" for our first dance. SHort and sweet.

I was in charge of the musical selection at my wedding. Put everything on the laptop and patched it through the overhead speakers. It worked great. I chose the vast majority of the songs, so I didn't object when my wife wanted a particular song included. She chose Norah Jones' "What Am I To You". Good song.

Overall, we used a LOT of classic rock songs. Grand Funk Railroad, Journey, Allman Brothers, CCR, Eagles, The Kinks, Styx, REO Speedwagon, Joan Jett, John Mellencamp, John Fogerty, Blue Oyster Cult, Bad Company, Ozzie Ozbourne, Bob Seger, and a bunch of other stuff.

Thanks for all the feedback. Hopefully Randy and I can come to an agreement. I like several of the songs that you guys are mentioning and I hope that Randy does too. I want him to be involved because it is his wedding too.

Knock em for a loop! Play "My Sharona" for your first song, and rip away your wedding dress, revealing a sixties-era swimsuit.

Both of you can then dance to the song by doing that hold-your-nose swimming dance.

People will remember your wedding forever.

I think I would go with "Momma's got Her Boobs Out" sung by Rodney Carrington.

The one luxury item I carry on every trip is my coconut cup I made while on a camping trip. A guy brought a rum filled coconut and after 4 days we opened it up and drank the juice and ate the meat. I cut the top off to get in and a guy said hey, make a cup out of it! So I did. It still had the husk on so I shaved it down to the hard shell and have had it for three years. It is always in my pack.

Run, Forest, RUN !! Run like the WIND !!
But.... seriously, I'm with TreeBait....

"What a wonderful world" by Louis Armstrong

that is my most favorite song ever and I used to have it on my website..... easy listening while you shop, kinda... LOL...

Just listen to it real close next time...

and best wishes to you both !!

Whenever my wife hears one she goes all gooey.

Let the woman pick it out. This #&%!$ means more to them.

em - not exaclty. Our minister told us that I shouldn't get too worked up about any of the wedding stuff. All you need is a bride, a preacher, and a mother-in-law. They can find a groom, no problem.

V- same here, I couldn't tell you the first song from our wedding. I can name a person or two that sang there because they were friends of the family, but that's it.

How about "Queen of My Doublewide Trailer?" Just kidding.

On a more serious note, Norah Jones' song, "Come Away With Me" would make a nice wedding song.

At my friend's wedding, she had a family friend sing "Songbird" (originally Christine McVie's from Fleetwood Mac, but redone by Eva Cassidy and on the Love Actually soundtrack) It's a beautiful song, made me misty eyed. : )
God help any guy I marry, cause I think I need some Journey. "Faithfully" perhaps. I love Journey.
I like Gem's "Always and Forever" suggestion too.

we just got married a couple of months ago and our first dance was
Bon Jovi's - I'll be there for you
Kinda of 90's I know, but the maid of honor sang it, so my wife loved it.

Another choice was Bruce Robison's - Just Married

check out Charlie Robison and Natalie Maines doing "the wedding song" bound to be a winner.

Since half of all marriages end in divorce, a more realistic wedding song might be the Eagles' "After the Thrill is Gone".

let her choose the song she wants. Otherwise--
I suggest "Always and Forever" by Luther Vandross.

Just stay away from Kenny G, for chri'sake:)

my definition of comprimise is backing up part of the ways to accomadate the other parties wishes, until both have contributed and taken from their original ideas and wants coming to one decision making both happy.

Making Memories of Us by Keith Urban

It's not too country, and is a perfect sentiment for a first song. But it's the kind of song that is coming from the man, so you should suggest that one, Opie.

"Making Memories Of Us"

I'm gonna be here for you baby
I'll be a man of my word
Speak the language in a voice that you have never heard
I wanna sleep with you forever
And I wanna die in your arms
In a cabin by a meadow where the wild bees swarm

And I'm gonna love you like nobody loves you
And I'll earn your trust making memories of us

I wanna honor your mother
I wanna learn from your pa
I wanna steal your attention like a bad outlaw
I wanna stand out in a crowd for you
A man among men
I wanna make your world better than it's ever been

And I'm gonna love you like nobody loves you
And I'll earn your trust making memories of us

We'll follow the rainbow
Wherever the four winds blow
And there'll be a new day
Comin' your way

I'm gonna be here for you from now on
This you know somehow
You've been stretched to the limits but it's alright now
And I'm gonna make you a promise
If there's life after this
I'm gonna be there to meet you with a warm, wet kiss

And I'm gonna love you like nobody loves you
And I'll earn your trust making memories of us
I'm gonna love you like nobody loves you
And I'll win your trust making memories of us

My dad and one of the ushers in my wedding got me to sneak "another one bites the dust" into the playlist. The usher cued it up right after our first dance. My wife got a laugh out of it...good thing she's easygoing.

Locomotive Breath...that's a good one.
