Horsetail Falls Hike, Desolation & Snow Pack

“I had been wanting to check out the snow pack back in Desolation Wilderness & also see and hike Horsetail falls which is one of my very favorite hikes in the Lake Tahoe area! So yesterday myself and a few friends made it to the top of the falls and a little further to Avalanche Lake. It was totally snow free..south facing slope up to the top of the falls...once on top there is patchy snow around. We really wanted to get to Ropi Lake and see the snow conditions back there, but did not go any further because of very very high winds and bad weather coming in, so had a nice lunch at Avalanche Lake and went back down. I have never seen so much water coming down horsetail falls before & it was so loud!! Felt the mist from the falls several hundred feet away from them which felt great. It was a beautiful hike & day...any of you that live fairly close should go see!
My camera takes absolutely horrible outdoor pictures & I am a bit embarrassed to post them with all the other wonderful pictures I see on this board from a few! I am for sure getting a new camera. I ran out of disk space so only got a few pictures of the hike. I will try to post two here...hope I get them to post...having trouble with my webshots..so they are uploaded on my ebay image site.
