Ouachita bug forcast

“I'm planning a trip to Broken Bow lake the first week of August. This is just south of the Ouachita Trail. Does anybody know have a clue if I can expect a lot of bugs?

Flies, mosquitos, something worse? Would you spray a little DEET on or bring lots of mesh?

Any response is better than no response.

“If you're hiking in the 90 degree heat expect ticks and lots of chiggers. Wear long pants and bring lots of DEET.

If you're going to be on the water, it should be pretty nice. The lakes are the place to be in AR and OK in the Summer. A general bug repellant should suffice.”
