“Boy Michael, that didn't take long! As I told you I got home and headed straight to the couch. That hike to Roaring River Falls did me in, but I'm glad I made it. I fell asleep on the couch about 8 and went to bed by 10.

Thanks guys for helping me out yesterday, it meant a lot. I had a great time!

I'm proud of this one! The longest hike that I've done in over a year. Hiked up to Roaring River Falls and back, almost 1/2 mile round trip. Probably took close to 20-30 minutes to do...but I made it...

I guess it's about wanting to believe that the eyes are a window to a person's soul. I'd rather believe that photos are a reflection of what's going on inside. Because, afterall, that's most meaningful and lasting.

There's lots of beauty and life in these images we post that make their way through our minds. But it's not just about quality, it's about content. There's a passion for technique, but then there's a passion for the wilderness, those high places, and all that comes with them. See the difference? That sometimes shows up in some of our photos. And the latter is what pulls me in, persuades me that the scene is where I want to be, or how I want to feel.

Ever want to know the odor of a flower when looking at an image of it? Ever want to sense how the trout feels in the hands of a guy at the shore of an alpine Sierra lake?

I just want to be inspired. And I hope in turn some of the experiences I share inspire family and friends as well.”

“Tek, I do know what you mean. It's much more than technique, but technique helps a lot.

Hikin Mike, "take nothing for granted" is an excellent mantra. A very dear friend just got diagnosed with cancer - a brain tumor. Pretty much from one day to the next, her world - and the worlds of all of us who love her - changed. What was the usual work-a-day world is now neuro ICU, radiation, MRIs and will soon be chemo. But her heart and soul are intact, so I'm grateful for that. Yours, too, I think :-)”

“techdude, I agree. It's what catches a persons eye that makes them individual too. A lot of times we miss so much beauty because we don't take the time to really look around us. So I think photography brings that to those of us who don't take that time. I think the pictures are there especially for them to enjoy because we the photographers have pictures ingrained in our memories.

Thinking of exploring Sequoia a bit then this time. Maybe more of Kings Canyon. Saw lots of trailheads last weekend. But I'd like to get some of those photos of the lions and tigers and bears. 0.o

Up for another run, or a one/two day overnighter? Thinking of getting tek jr. out there farther as well.”

The city of Exeter puts on a free fireworks show if you want to take the kiddos.”
