Freezer stink, please help!!!

“I need help, the oldest boy unplugged the chest freezer and it sat undetected for four months. (It was our long term storage freezer) Now after cleaning out about 50 pounds of meat it still stinks badly. Tried all kinds of different things to air it out. Nothing has worked, any suggestions? If it doesn't work anybody want a freezer for 25 bucks?????”

If you have a plastic liner, you need to replace it, or the entire freezer.

Also, did you check your insurance coverage?

Also, look into an attachment for your plug that can prevent this in the future at the hardware store. Don't know what it's called.”

“Yuck. We had this problem with a place we rented. Not only was there a smell from rotten meat (prior to when we rented the place), but we found bugs living in the refrigerator! We lived there a grand total of 4 months. We were relieved when we found out the owner (contrary to what she had originally told us) made plans to sell the place!

And, NO, we never were able to get rid of the smell completely.

You might try some sort of crime scene cleanup outfit. Yes, there really are places that deal with that sort of thing!

“Having forgotten about some bait shrimp in my cooler..... for TWO WEEKS !!! ....
I tried CLOROX CLEAN-UP Disinfectant Cleaner (in a 1 quart plastic spray bottle) and it did the job.. NO after smell what-so-ever. I was very impressed with it.
I will be taking this same cooler to Dolly Sods with me this weekend ... if you need some "test smellers" I will be glad to get some references for you !! LOL
But, that product worked for me.

as they say....... if it werks fer me - it'll werk fer you !!


hmmmmmmm I wonder if it will work on this stinkass century plant I have blooming in my back yard !! ????

“Mop the entire surface with vanilla (not imitation and use the good stuff).

After it dries, mop the surface again with a solution of baking soda and water.

I have cleaned some foul smelling coolers this way and it worked like a charm. I called Igloo about how to clean the smell and that's what the technical department gave me.”

“There is a product called Odo-Ban that does a very good job. Also, Look around for something that breaks the molecular bond of "stink". There are several products around that do this and some are even affordable. Thoroughly clean, then use these products liberally. Take apart as much as you can. FWIW, nothing may work. I recall a Mythbusters episode where they let pigs rot in a Corvette and after using a Crime Scene cleanup solution, it still stank so bad they could only sell it for parts.”

“Be sure to climb in and close the lid while cleaning with any powerful chymicals too. I would think a citrus oil soap like Mean Green would help too.”

“TRy using a thick solution of coffee (yep, you read that correctly). Boil a cup of instant coffee in water until the whole thing thickens up a little, then use it with a soft scrub pad. Let it sit for awhile then wash out with soap and water. It will leave a mild coffee aroma, but its definately a plus if you're a caffine addict.”
