The supreme court today gave cities the right to take away your house so that a private developer can put up a shopping mall--more loss of rights for the american citizen--

I thought cities had been doing that for a long time. They supposedly make you a good offer on your property. If you refuse they come in and condemn it and buy it for pocket change

Usually ED is invoked for things like public works. Hospitals, drainage, highways and the like. The new flavor is stealing your land so a private company can put in a mall or a office park.

Emminent domain burns my ass! They put a highway in here ( a bypass to bypass the old bypass) and took homes and farms from families that had them in their family since Tell City was founded by the Swiss.

Some years ago a big developer came in around my parents house with a plan to damn up a huge valley creating a massive lake. They would have owned all the property around it and then planned to put in condos and houses and other dev. They moved in truckloads of machinery and had already built 6 or 7 of the damns. They were bullies and pushing property owners around trying to get them to sell. A couple of key property owners held out till the end. The machinery went away and the farmers tore the damns down or made ponds.

It sounds like under this new pressure they may have been able to use emminent domain?

This issue has taken on some local relevance in Brooklyn. Billionaire developer, Bruce Ratner, wants to move the New Jersey Nets to my old neighborhood in Brooklyn. There is a lot of opposition to it, due to the already congested nature of the area, traffic, housing, etc. etc...

This decision has weakened the arguments of the anti-arena groups that Ratner is abusing the eminent domain laws.

And New York has some of the worst eminent domain laws in the country...

That's precisely why we need more conservative judges in the courts and on the supreme court.

People on the left have been using the supreme court to legitimize their unconstitutional agendas for decades and now they are surprised that the same supreme court is goring their ox. You reap what you sew. Enjoy your harvest.

HPM, if you have been complaining about the supremes for years then by all means Preach On, Brother, but I am referring to everyone who has been applauding the unconstitutional rulings by the supremes (although once they make a ruling it becomes constitutional) for the past few decades.

Its like if you have been training your cat to kill mice in the barn, then you let your favorite gerbal free in the haystack. ;) Don't get mad when the cat kills it.

Yes, I hope nobody confused that with civil discourse.

My apologies to those that did.

Omindirectional HPM?

What’s omnidirectional about a philosophy that allows the Teamsters to collude with government to run the train system into the ground? Noticed all the trucks on our highways lately? How about collusion between government and ADM, the pharmaceutical companies, the trial lawyers, the AMA…?

All government regulation benefits somebody’s business to the detriment of others.

The leftists prefer “big-government” control as much, or more so, than they say the right prefers “big-business” control. What’s omnidirectional about that philosophy?

Look at which justices dissented in this loss of liberty to “the good of the state.”
