Ouch....
I hate getting stung. I always drain out (squeeze) any venom I can. If a stinger is left, I carefully remove that too, being careful not to inject more venom.

Good luck.

uh how big is the welt now?

I used to clean my fathers gutters every year. once I picked out a wasp's nest and got stung about six times before I could pull my hand away, and I was leaning off the roof about 45 feet in the air. Damm near fell off. The stings didn't hurt as much as the thought of falling off the roof. LOL, you'll be fine, although you might be slightly allergic, watch for your face and throat swelling.

So, it's on your toe? Not much circulation there. It'll take a while for the blood flow to dilute it out to where you won't notice it. It can't possibly be any farther from your heart (the main criculation device>>>)

Describe it a little more please. Big toe, little toe? Where exactly were you stung? How long ago? What's it doing right now?

Realize this, you are messaging Dr. Monkeyboy!!!!!

Be glad your throat didn't close up from anaphylatic shock!!! That is why all hiker's should really carry a kit for that. It happened to me in Kauai, HI, and I was lucky enough to reach a hospital in time, before I totally stopped breathing.

what would be a good kit?

Currently I carry generic antihistimine (Chlor Trimation equivalent), asthma inhaler (albuterol sp?), and starting this week an epi pen. Should I also carry some sting specific pads/wipes or other remedies such as meat tenderizer, sweet & low, baking soda ?

Okay, so I got stung 4 or 5 times on Sunday on the inside of my ankle. At first the usual sting, then the pain went away.

Now, my ankle is swollen and it itches like a MF!

Anyone reccomend a ointment or something I can put on it to take the itch away?

I already peed on it, nothin happened.

I will try amputation next, then burn off the stump with a hand torch.

After that, I will apply the medications Nigal suggests above.

Then I will drink a bottle of MD 20/20

if you are having a large local reaction (lots of swelling) prednisone may be an option but after hearing about the guy (Can Do Man on AT) whose hips were destroyed by prednisone makes me think it would be better to just tough it out

HOME CARE ADVICE FOR INSECT BITES
1. Itchy Insect Bites (including all mosquito bites):

Apply calamine lotion or a baking soda paste.

If the itch is severe, use 1% hydrocortisone cream (no prescription). Apply 4 times a day until the itch is less severe, then switch to calamine lotion.

Also apply firm, sharp, direct, steady pressure to the bite for 10 seconds. A fingernail, pen cap, or other object can be used.

If the bite is very itchy after local treatment, try an oral antihistamine (e.g. Benadryl). Sometimes it helps, especially in allergic children.

2. Painful Insect Bites:

Rub the bite for 15 to 20 minutes with a cotton ball soaked in a meat tenderizer solution. This will usually relieve the pain. (Caution: don't use near the eye)

If not available, use a baking soda solution on a cotton ball.

If neither is available, apply an ice cube for 20 minutes.

Give acetaminophen (e.g. Tylenol) or ibuprofen for pain relief. See Dosage table. Antihistamines don't help.

3. Antibiotic Ointment: If the insect bite has a scab on it and the scab looks infected, apply an antibiotic ointment 4 times per day.

Cover the scab with a Band-Aid to prevent scratching and spread.

Repeat washing the sore, the antibiotic ointment and the Band-Aid 4 times per day until healed.

Caution: For spreading infections (redness or red streaks), your child needs to be seen.

4. Expected Course: Most insect bites itch or hurt for 1 to 2 days. The swelling may last a week.

5. Call Your Doctor If

Severe pain persists > 2 hours after pain medicine

Infected scab doesn't clear after 48 hours of antibiotic ointment.

Bite looks infected (redness, red streaks, increased tenderness)

I read in a magazine that a onion cut in half and placed on an insect bite is supposed to relieve the pain. I never tried it so I don't know if it works.

What the hell is "btfoom"?

but yes, irritation by insect bites is an immunoligical response, caused by self. stings are caused by venom/poison from the antagonist.

So then benadryl shouldn't work with bee stings?

Can someone confirm or refute this? It's so hot Dani and I decided Lemonade/Absolute drinks were required. I might not be thinking so straight.

Gemini got bit by a bat on the way up to Greenbriar Pinnacle...or was it a wasp with enlarged wings? Either way, it flapped away - it didn't buzz away! I would have told her to pee on it, but it was on her shoulder...

Yes but they don't bite, they sting. Skeeters inject an anticoagulant which irritates you b/c your immune system doesn't like it. It's indirect, not the purpose of the compound. The venom/poison in a sting is meant to cause damage. Therefore I believe different remedies are needed.......I think. Damn these drinks are good.

i got stung by something huge. flew away with flapping wings. hurt like #&%!$. it's weird looking today...all red, black and blue.

oh smokygirl you already posted it. yupp bat, that's it!! a freaking bat bit me. if I start foaming out of my mouth...better watch out!

seriously, I wonder what it could've been. it was def. huge.

oh if I get bit by certain mosquitos [didn't figure out yet which species] the bites swell up to a huge size, almost like football size. it goes away within a couple of days, but it does look scary.

do some moths bite?
and dammit, i don't want anyone else pee on my bites. [i can just picture that too, smokeygirl peeking on my shoulder hahahahah]

Gem, I got bit by one of those giant super loud cicadas that came out in '96. That thing had a proboscis like a large gauge needle; It jabbed my finger but didn't like the taste of blood. My finger hurt bad for a week after that.
