How Often Does REI Have Sales?View MessagesViewing posts 1 to 11 of 11 messages posted.
So, as you may recall I am new... “REI is having a July 4th sale. Since I am new to this whole culture, I was curious as to how often they have these sales. I am asking because I have a birthday in late August and am basically starting at ground zero for backpacking, though I have plenty of carcamping (read heavy as hell) gear. So, if they have a Labor Day sale I could time that with birthday cash and maybe get some good deals. I also noticed if I sign up to recieve REI's adverts by mail, I can get a 10% discount. I am sort of waiting on that because I do not know how long after I sign up the offer would expire. Finally, is there a "best" and "worst" time of year to buy backpacking gear? You know, like you would not want to buy ski gear in early spring but would wait until winter to get a good deal on a mountain bike? Also, while I am posting, thanks for the warm welcome earlier this month.” 3:14:59 PM 6/25/05 “REI, has quite a few sales each yr. If you are a member you can go to their garage sale. Nice bargins at those. Also check this link for other places that sell gear online. Lots of good deals on last yr's stuff http://www.thebackpacker.com/trailtalk/thread/37241,-1.php last edited: 6/25/05 3:30:17 PM” 3:26:24 PM 6/25/05 “Harlock: REI has lots of sales. They also have used gear sales for members. It's worth joining, last I knew it was 15 dollars for a lifetime membership. You get rebates on all non-sale items (about 10% if you pay with cash or an REI credit card, otherwise about 8%). I'm sure there will be a Labor day w/e sale. There seem to be three best times to buy most things in my experience. First off, just before the begining of the season in which the item will be useful - when there is plenty of time for the retailer to order more if early sales are brisk. Secondly, near the end of the season when everyone wants to clean out their inventory for the following season. Prices are better late and post season that early and pre-season, but selections may have dwindled. Thirdly at times of special sales and discounts. For example, REI has times where they give out one time 20% off discounts on any item. EMS has a 20% off everything sale (it used to be a club day thing, now its open to everyone). If you are thinking REI, check their website and look at the schedule for their garage sales.” 3:30:09 PM 6/25/05 “Thanks, guys.” 3:42:32 PM 6/25/05 “If you join rei you have to purchas something every year with your membership card there in order to remain a member.” 9:58:52 PM 6/25/05 Sales. “They seem to have all of their sales when I'm not looking.” 10:27:41 PM 6/25/05 Apply for the.... “REI visa card.
