Jerky!

“anyway, while on the AT last year i had some jerky that made me think i had done something wonderful in a previous life, because nothing in this life was good enough to match the meaty manna from heaven that was melting savorfully in my mouth. all i can remember about who made it was fox.... something, like "fox smokehouse" or something like that and im pretty sure it was from vermont. anybody know what the hell im talking about? does anybody ever know what the hell im talking about?”

“CB, consider making your own! I am certainly not a gourmet anything, but I've never had anyone tell me that any commercial-made jerky was as good as my home-made stuff. When you make your own, you can slect whatever cut / grade of meat you like best, marinate in whatever mixture you like best, etc. I have gotten away from dehydrating a lot of other foods I used to dry at home because there's so much available now if you look around, but NOTHING beats making your own jerky!”

I agree with wanderer. Making your own jerky is far better than anything you can buy at a store. Of course, the first batch may not be the best, but several tweaks later and you'll have something far better than that foxsomethingorother.”

Those "jerky shooters" (no, Spirit, not something you drink.) also work very good---you can make great jerky with ground sirloin, round, or venison. Try some turkey jerky too. Mmmm.”

Wish we had a deer, but no. We found a butcher near here who sells all sorts of wild game: venison, pheasant, quail, caribou, turtle, rattlesnake, etc. Jon bought 3 pounds of venison so I could jerky it.”
