Grizzly kills couple in Alaska
Sounds like the couple did everything right, but when a predatory bear is after you, it doesn't matter.

or maybe camp in a bigger group. Someone mentioned the polar bear warning system the put around the tent in the lonely planet series. At least that would give you some sort of chance to at least grab the gun.

In Glacier NP, Montana, they recommend that you use a group size of 4 because grizzly rarely attack a group of 4 or more people.

I don't think this Griz cared how many people were there. He smelled meat in the plastic burrito and attacked it. He must have been a pretty quick bear to kill them both before they could react but who knows the real story. They never said how old the bear was or what condition his teeth were in. Just another example that sometimes mother nature gets the best of you.

Just make sure you can run faster than the dog.

well, it did say rarely, it didn't say it never happens.

its all about the odds, sooner or later nature catches up - its like beating the house in Vegas.

Do you really think a Timex is going to prevent a bear from attacking you?

Griz didn't do it!!
I know he didn't do it. I picked him up at the Isle Royal Queen IV dock last night. He's on his way back to Milwaukee today. He's innocent. I swear! ;oP
