Cumberland Trail this weekend?

I am thinking of doing an overnighter this Saturday on one of the sections. Anyone interested or have any suggestions? I want to do the Tennessee River Gorge segment, but overnight parking is an issue there. It may just end up as a dayhike. My regular CT partner left me for Maine. :(

I need to go see my mother this weekend to help her get some things done around her house.

But if I change plans and decide to go the next weekend, I would be ready for a trip on the CT.

Yeah, I know. I may end up just doing a day hike. I dont backpack often during the summer months here, but I need to start getting in shape for a trip out west. It may just be me and my doggie. :)

I really enjoyed this last weekend at Slickrock - you may enjoy something like that also - going up and down Ike Branch Tr. will do things for your conditioning also

HOI, I am thinking about the southern terminus...the TN River Gorge segment. It is near the Prentice Cooper area.

OK looking at this map there appears to be three parking areas but as I read the notes the parking at Signal Point NP is day use only so there is parking somewhat near the lookout tower and at Suck Creek - from those points what is your plan for an overnight hike?

sounds interesting, i've not been on the CT but was checking it out day at the trail head there on the Obed... looked like a nice trail along thru there... but i'll be partying in chicago this weekend... whoops...

HOI, I would park at the lot just southwest of the suck creek in Prentice Cooper, then hike to Edwards point campsite. They said on the website that it is "almost impossible" to do the 11 miles in one day because of the boulder fields, but that may be a bunch of BS. I want to see Signal Point, though, and that would be another 3 miles I think?

I'm having a hard time working up the ambition to do this hike - its the 9 hour drive that hurts the most plus I can't see where I can camp Friday night that is "close" to the parking lot so as to get an early start Saturday - anyways don't count on me to be there, I'm thinking someplace closer to central VA will be a better choice for me.

Alright, HOI. There are usually unoffical campsites all along the CT. Fire rings are everywhere. But I understand the 9 hour drive just for an overnighter. I may just do this as a day hike anyways and start at Signal Point.

I'd like to hike that part of the CT sometime, but I already have plans this weekend. Have a great time!
