Yellowstone 2005: Chased by a Marmot TRView MessagesViewing posts 1 to 11 of 11 messages posted.
“Me and two of my friends visited Yellowstone National Park between June 1 and June 11 this year. I took over 1200 pictures but narrowed them down to 95 for your view pleasure. You can view them here Yellowstone 2005 TR and Pictures. As the title suggests, I was chased in the park by a vicious mama Marmot. I got a little close to take a picture of her and her babies and she didn't like it, so she chirped really loud and then chased me off the rocks. The first couple of days we just visited the park, then we backpacked the Shoshone Lake Trail which was covered in snow. We enjoyed a beautiful sunset on the lake. While I really enjoyed the trail, I believe the heart lake trail is better. However, the geyser basin at Shoshone is better than the one at Heart Lake. We visited just about every big area in the park. I got a couple great shots in the Grand Canyon area. Lower falls We stopped at the Grand Tetons on the way home, but really couldn't see them because of the clouds. Anyway, I'll let you look at the other photos, just wanted to share those with ya. Maybe a more detailed trip report later which will include my friend Allan getting lost in the backcountry for two days by himself and again on Sepechlur mountain.” 1:48:12 PM 6/27/05 “Cool, Dub...I'll check out the ninety-plus ones when I have more time...” 1:53:08 PM 6/27/05 “Outstanding pics, Dub. Its been too long since I've been to Yellowstone...” 1:54:49 PM 6/27/05 “That cute little furry thing chased you?! "She was vicious! She had fangs this long! She's a killah!!"” 2:20:59 PM 6/27/05 “lol, i had a marmot encounter yesterday too, but it didn't chase me. furry little critters ain't they?” 2:23:54 PM 6/27/05 “screw that - do they taste good?” 2:55:02 PM 6/27/05 “Out here, we call the little buggers woodchucks or groundhogs (Marmota monax) and farmers go out of their way to kill them. Looks like the one that chased you was a Yellowbelly Marmot (Marmota flaviventris).” 4:05:03 PM 6/27/05 “It had like 10 babies running around everywhere” 4:15:43 PM 6/27/05 “I thought I saw a couple babies amongst the rocks.” 9:05:30 PM 6/27/05 “I just love Yellowstone! Your pics make me want to go back RIGHT NOW!!” 9:34:10 PM 6/27/05 “Dub, I enjoyed your photos, but it didn't seem like 90+. Maybe finding page 2 stumped me............ The one "Hot springs galore" is blown up and hanging in my kitchen, only yours is better than mine! We went to Yellowstone last summer. It's pretty incredible.” 11:22:41 PM 6/27/05
