Meth Mouth *Graphic picture warning*

Would someone care to explain how taking meth can result in that tooth situation? I suspect it has more to do with just neglecting to brush.”

“It is caused by lack of saliva production resulting in a dry mouth. Saliva protects the teeth and without enough it results in high risk of tooth decay. Some prescribtion drugs can cause dry mouth too as can radiation from cancer treatment. There are ways to avoid what you see happening in that picture though. Brushing right after anything other than water is put into the mouth is crucial. Also home floride treatments will help re-mineralize the teeth to keep them from decaying. Using a salt and soda mouthwash several times per day helps too. The problem is the meth heads don't know this or even care and just eat like everyone else and maybe brush just twice per day or not at all. They neglect to do the proper oral care to keep their teeth healthy, so just turn black and fall out from decay.

“I think the aging photos of methheads are even scarier. Like where they show a 25 year old woman before she started using and how 2 years later she looks like she is pushing 50. Gaunt, boney, tight skin...and the teeth never help either.
Apparently meth mouth is becoming such an issue that Dentist Orgs are teaching dentists what to do when they see it.
I honestly believe that Meth is one of the worst things to take over America in recent times. What gets me is the waste of it all :-( Especially for the kids. One woman I know became so wrapped up in the Mth culture with her husband, that they were cooking with the kids next to them. THey got busted, got out on bail-and got busted for cooking again! She lost her kids and has no parental rights-and is in prison :-(”
