WOW TWO bp related threads in one day? Dont have a heart attack people...

so I'm looking at my rei catalouge and I see the wicked fast which weighs just over a lb and comes in the short length too- its comes with a pillow pocket that you can stuff with clothes...

I'm thinking seriously of takeing a trip over to REI and getting this in a few weeks
from now. It doesnt have the mummy hood though but if I wear a backlava I think I should be ok so long as it is not too cold out. It has a half length zipper and a foot box zipper all for $200. What do you all thing of it?

Oh yeah I also wanna get the snow peak titanium trek 700...

Its titanium!

Well, it looks like it would be wicked fast man. 16 oz for the short. I personally have a problem with mummy bags - also with half and quarter length zippers. I like a semi-rectangle that can be zipped open ALL THE WAY for use like a blanket. It's all about versatility.

It depends of course on your intended funtions, I might lug it around on a distance or elevation intensive hike ...

that bag (if I like it in person when I see it) with the prolite short therm-a-rest (13 oz) and the bivy and tarp set up will make-up my sleeping gear.

Spirit - I think you are gonna freeze your a$$ off in that thing in the early Spring GA mountains.
You do know it doesn't have ANY down on the underside and you MUST use a pad with it.

LOL
OK, you are gonna freeze your a$$ off on the early stages of the PCT. ;-)

I would call that a 40 degree bag.

I have a Sierra Designs 0 degree down bag that is more like a 20-25 degree bag, even when it was new a few years ago. I like the idea of their Wicked Fast bags, but I would also doubt the 30 degree rating.

At first glance, the bag is nice looking and has good loft. I have the regular size and which is suppose to be 1 lb 2 oz. It is very light and sparse on features, which is the intended purpose. I got it for long distance hikes and will use it in cool (not cold) weather with a tarp and bivy. The bivy should help with weather around the freezing mark. If I know it'll be below freezing at night on trips, then I'll take another bag. It has straps on the bottom to slide your pad through to keep it in place. I've never found the need for these but some people might. They tend to get in the way when stuffing it into the "attached" stuff sack/pillow. The attached stuff sack is a good idea. I think it could be used as a hood if you stuff a fleece jacket in there and squeeze your head in. LOL Otherwise, stuff some clothes in there for a pillow and take along a warm hat. The half way zipper doesn't bother me at all. I can see myself pulling it over me as a quilt when sleeping in a hammock on summer trips. I usually stick my feet in the bag, leave it unzipped, and pull it over me like a quilt when in the hammock. I am 6' and 200lbs with a slim body and wide shoulders. I fit perfectly in the bag. If I was any larger then I'd need a long. Since I'm trying to shave ounces here, I decided to go with the regular and I'm glad I did.

The down goes around the sides and under the bottom of the bag for 6 inches on both sides. The bottom part of the bag without any insulation is minimal if you ask me. I've had other summer bags where the down only went across the top and stopped there. This one is different in that respect.

My goal is to shave my 5-day pack weight down to 25lbs fully loaded. I think I'm gonna really like this bag. Comfort levels are different for everyone. I'm a warm sleeper and have stayed comfortable in a 45F bag down to 35-40F...wearing shorts, t-shirt, and socks. I'll try this bag out a few times this summer, but will take it on a week long trip coming up this Fall. I guess that will be the real test.

Ok, I'll shut up now.

Just spent a week on the AT in Virginia with the Wicked Fast 30F bag. The temp's went down near 35F most of the week and I only got cold when the wind was blowing on the bag...in shelters for example. I was comfortable in my tent, but not when the wind was blowing on me.

If it was going to be cooler then I'd definitely take another bag. I didn't find it to be as warm as other similar rated bags. I have a cheap down Campmor 45F bag that's warmer than this one...just my opinion. I found myself missing my 20F bag a few nights on this trip.

But, when used in combination with a bivy, I've found the WF to be ok down to around 30F.

Take a hat if it's gonna be cool...there's no hood!
