I am trying to get a road trip approved through my work to get a few staff and a few clients to go to Yellowstone in September.

We will be camping along parks on the road trip there and then staying near or in Yellowstone for about 2 or 3 days..... depending on how quick we get there. It's all still in the works right now.

Any good tips?

Be sure the staff and clients are at least familar with camping. This especially goes for the clients. If they have a different expectation of what the experience will be and it doesn't meet that expectation then you'll be miserable trying to jump through hoops.

Yes, they have been on several camping trips with me in primitive sites... most recently this past Mon to Tues. We will have a big meeting before this trip takes place.

What kind of company, that your work is doing this?
Very cool.
Come out a little further and hang out with the Washingtonians! It's only another 10 or so hours drive. LOL!

Maybe you can expense out some new gear. Dutch ovens for cooking at night.....

I'd try and get a handle on how much each person has traveled. If not much, then I'd try and pick a really unique local flavor type of place to camp as I headed west. This is really where TT could come in for you. If you know roughly where you'll be after 10 hrs of driving then through it out here for local ideas. Do the same after 10 more hrs,.....

Don't waste time at Mammoth Hot Springs. They are nothing like they were 20 years ago... now dried up for the most part.

If your going to Yellowstone, you better hurry! There was this special news thing on tv about a month ago that said the whole is about to blow up and we'll all die when it does.

I think I’ll wait until after. There won’t be any crowds if everyone’s dead.

What about something less bold? Shenandoah, Katahdyn (sp), .......

If 4-5 total days of driving time killed the deal then pick something with a day each way or even half a day of driving time.

Yep, points for creativity.

I watch the geysercams every day. I really want to go back. Maybe next year, during the summer, I don't know. It's all about the $$$ any more.

I watch them too. I've never been there. It's on my long list of places to go!

The silence was golden. I was standing ankle deep in increasingly colder snow. The wind continued to brush past, but I kept my up-turned collar facing into it. If I had known the wait was going to be this long, I surely would have worn something warmer. Yet still... I waited.

One cigarette, then another. An hour must have passed, perhaps another - who knows. The wait continued.

I tried to ward off the chill by busying my mind with thoughts of other things.
"The snow is beautiful under the half-moon." I said to myself.
Although the moon shown bright, it did not vail the myriad stars cast across the sky from horizon to horizon.

"I should be able to see a grizzly if one happens to come snooping around" I remember thinking. "I could make haste to the truck, and hopefully beat it there. Hmph - who am I kidding?"

All these thoughts suddenly vanished into the air now alive with sound. The barritone solo echoing through the valley was the unmistakable sound of a wolf howl.

No sooner than coyotes began joining the chorus, yet another sound drew my attention.

It was a sound foretelling the arrival of the attraction for which I had stopped. The ground hissed and sighed, and the venting steam grew suddenly heavier and more prevelant. Old Faithful was once again coming alive, and I alone was there to witness it.

September is a great time to go to Yellowstone. The elk should be in rut and it is an awesome sound to hear while you are sitting around camp. Last year we went to sleep with elk bugling and woke up in the middle of the night when the wolves chimed in. It was amazing.

Plan on several days. Yellowstone is a big place. There is a large loop drive. Must sees include Biscuit Basin/Old Faithful area, Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone (gorgeous waterfalls and colors), Mammoth Hot Springs, Lamar Valley (bison and antelope in abundance, wolves if you're lucky.) Bring a fishing rod if you like to fish. Mt. Washburn is a nice short dayhike with beautiful views.

Definitely go see the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. All of the photos I've seen of the place do it no justice whatsoever. Looking down that far, and finding out how good my camera lenses were was something else. So was the wind chill, since we did this at Christmas.

I went for a week the first time then two the second time. It's hard to see all of that park. I love Mammoth Springs and it would be good for your companion. The Grand Canyon of Yellowstone is awesome too, see both sets of falls. Lots of little geysers and hiking around Old Faithful. The Grand Prismatic Pool is good as well as any of the paint pots. You really don't need to plan much, just find a pull out and start hiking.
