WEST VANCOUVER, British Columbia, June 30 — A ferry lost power, plowed through several boats and crashed into a marina Thursday as it tried to dock at Horseshoe Bay in West Vancouver.
British Columbia Ferries spokeswoman Deborah Marshall said there were no reports of injuries. The vessel missed its berth, she said.

I'm sure the crew was apologetic.

Wow! That's a big ferry. I guess the one going from New Brunswick out to Grand Manaan was about that big.

We need big ferries around here. Lots of people live on islands in BC and WA. And that ferry was coming from Vancouver Island. Huge place. (I wonder what the statistic of island dwellers is... hmmm.)

Thank God no one was killed in the marina. Scary sounding story!

Well, there's about 3/4 of a million people living on Vancouver Island, and probably half of that is in the Greater Victoria area

The Fleet
Not near as big as Washington Ferries, which is the largest in the world is it not?

Speculation this evening is that the ferry captain threaded the ship between the intended berth and the larger dock at the marina. It wiped out the smaller dock and a couple of dozen boats on its way to a soft landing, rather than crashing into the berth. No injuries.

Maybe the "Queen of Vancouver" ?

Yes, Washington's fleet is the largest.

Sounds like the skipper avoided a greater disaster.

Heck, been here most my life and didn't know that fact. Although I guess I'm not surprised. : )

My friend Dixie, who is also nicknamed Pixie lives on Vancouver Island. It's such a great place. : )
