Oh man! I take:

Summer Squash
Zucchini
Big Purple onion
Yellow pepper
Red Pepper
Green pepper
Mushrooms
Green olives

And I cut it all up and marinade it in a gallon zip lock for a few hours with some Italian dressing. Then I put ‘em on the grill in a foil pan with holes in the bottom or a cast iron skillet and grill them until perfectly tender. It’s so colorful and tasty!

Don't eat the vegetables! Eat just the meat!

You can also grill them on a George Foreman grill as well... :-)

We've grilled:

Carrots
Beets
Peppers
Eggplant
Yellow Squash
Zucchini
Shallots (Thinkbubelz can't eat onions)
Mushrooms
Portabella Mushrooms (marinated!)

Rutabagas (that was a mistake-- they turn very bitter when grilled!)
Corn (Soak in water first. Grill/roast IN the husk until the husk is blackened and the insides are cooked... IF you get the corn from a farmer's market or an actual farm-house stand, this will make some of the sweetest corn you've ever had! IT takes forever, but if you want to speed up the process, put the corn in the microwave for about 5-10 minutes before you grill.)

Most veggies are great on the grill--some are not as good if they are too bitter in flavor or if their texture is too soft.
(which is why we only grill cherry tomatoes on a shish-kebob)

One of our friends will quarter a zucchini long-ways, then slather in a pat of butter and sprinkle with "Adobo" seasoning (find it in Mexican grocery stores--it usually has garlic, cumin, salt, pepper and a few other seasonings.) Wrap it up in foil and put it on the grill... YUMMMMY!

No, he can't... you don't want to be between him and a bathroom if he does.... :-(

Actually, if you grill a lot of veggies on the George Foreman, you do get a bit of the "charred" taste from the juices "caramelizing" and getting blackened on the grill surface.... Not bad though, when you don't have much time and would like the grilled veggies...

I usually brush some olive oil on them, which will tend to burn a little on the grill (and leave nice grill marks.)

Yow...I use onions in almost everything. Very few of my fave recipes don't start with "Chop up an onion and sweat it in some EVOO"...

I think I have ice cream recipes that start out with that...

We substitute Shallots, Leeks or chives for the onions.

Shallots are part of the Garlic family, so they don't bother Thinkbubelz....

Ok... I admit, I'm an ice cream junkie and have tried many flavors (including lobster ice cream-- the ice cream part was good, the lobster chunks were too hard...)...

but, ONION ice cream? That sounds nasty!

ok I need some help. Grilling is one of those things I prefer a dude to do...partly cause I fear blowing myself up. so heres the deal..I tried to use the igniter on my gas grill a few minutes ago..NOTHING. I know I can open the valve and just throw in a lit match right?

turn the gas off for a couple minutes to make sure any built up gas is gone then do that...i prefer to use one of those long lighters...those igniters are always the first thing to go on a grill

The trick is to cook slow and low. And the use of inderect heat is best. Turn one side on high and put your meat on the other side with no heat or maybe on the lowest setting. I always say, grilling starts the day before you eat. Rub that meat down the day before and marinate it over night. Makes all the difference in the world. A pan with wet wood chips on the high side is great too.

I have a suggestion...

Get rid of the gas grill...

The only way to go is charcol babe! :)

I hated the gas grill so much I bought a nice big charcol one even though the gas one is still perfectly good....

The grill probably has a port in the side to stick the match, or better yet, one of those long aim-a-flame-type things into. Open the lid to the grill, put the aim-a-flame or long match into the port, turn on the gas, whoof! you're lit.

I used to do the whole tossing-a-lit-match-into-the-gas-grill thing, it's dangerous.

I got one of these babies for winter and when I run out of gas...worth every penny. Kicks old George's ass. I can take the plates off and do griddled pan cakes, and i can make grilled peninis that rival Penara Bread's.

Will Carlette blow herself to Kingdom Come with her new gas grill?

Will what's leftover be tasty?

Can we find TT'ers who would try it to find out?

Can we find TT'ers who wouldn't?

hmm i love filled tomatoes just cut the top and scrape the inside out. fill with sheep cheese and hers and then roast over the fire.

Since I'm from saarland i dont own a grill. True saarlandians do not use grills. We use schwenkers ;)

A schwenker is a tripodfrom which a grill grate is hanging down. Under the grate you make a fire and let it burn down to get a solid amount of coals. Fresh wood is preferred to charcoal ;)

Schwenker??

That's hot!

You are correct about fresh wood.
Ever since I tried lump charcoal the brickettes taste like chemical.
That is the case since charcoal brickettes are made from hardwood sawdust held together with a chemical binder.
Lump charcoal is made from actual pieces of hardwood such as maple and oak boards.
These are often made of broken pallets and crates and pieces of flooring wood, a good recycle of material and no chemicals.
