“whos going to see it? pretty good reviews so far..” 9:15:49 AM 7/01/05 “im going to see it tonite” 9:23:00 AM 7/01/05 “going to see it, here it is great.” 9:26:43 AM 7/01/05 “can't wait to see it, hopefully this weekend.” 9:27:41 AM 7/01/05 “Like most movies, I'll wait for it to come out on video.” 9:32:07 AM 7/01/05 “Been waiting on it since I saw the preview 3 or 4 months ago. But with Cruise's latest comments that have been in the "news", I'm certainly not going to see it because he is in it. He's such a moron. Sorry, not trying to fuego this thread.” 9:33:11 AM 7/01/05 Saw it last night. “My son and I went to see it at a late show. It was really good. Classic Spielberg work that had me on edge for most of the picture. Good acting, very nice script, excellent characterisations. The special effects were well done without being cheesy or overwhelming, even though there are some strong scenes in which the fx do tend to be almost blinding in their intensity. Basically, the fx are well meshed with the human aspects of the film. As with the novel, with Wells painting a cautionary symbolic tale of turning the tables on Britain's destruction of and terrorism toward cultures less technologically advanced, this one is obviously a poke at America using its umatched military wares to kill the people of less developed nations as we please.” 9:50:58 AM 7/01/05 “I saw it this past weekend and it kicks booty!!!! I hate Tom Cruise but the movie still won me over. I thought the little girl and the Tim Robbins character were great. The FX are spectacular. I was actually scared at moments...which has not happened for me in a long time. The story is just amazing. No wonder people went into such a panic years ago when it was broadcast on the radio. I think the thing that makes it scary is that it's not something that can not be ruled out of an actual possiblity. Probably not likely...but still...we don't know. If you've not seen the movie...stop reading right now Few questions about the movie: if the aliens planted their machines here millions of years ago, would they have not also become exposed to earth bacteria and parasites? did they machines become sick (why would the force field be down? did little ceratops alien forget to press the foorce field button?) were the machines bio-machines?” 2:59:39 PM 8/02/05 “if the aliens planted their machines here millions of years ago, would they have not also become exposed to earth bacteria and parasites? yes, but not nearly as much. we humans spread bacteria and parasites by our existence, moreso in our densely populated areas. but that does raise another question. historically (on earth, anyway) it has always been the invaders bringing disease which kills off the natives. so why didnt we die of alien diseases? perhaps, after the movie ended, we did. but this is a popcorn-flick, not history. did they machines become sick (why would the force field be down? did little ceratops alien forget to press the foorce field button?) because steven spielberg only had 2 hours in which to wrap it up.” 7:29:04 PM 8/02/05 “I'm glad you said Tim Robbins was in it. I didn't know that. Now I won't waste my money on it. Thanks!” 8:24:47 PM 8/02/05 “tim robbins's role in it is brief” 1:07:55 AM 8/03/05 “he's underwear?” 1:31:08 AM 8/03/05 “LOL - In that case, I'll rent it. Thanks crash.” 7:02:50 AM 8/03/05 “I'm glad you said Tim Robbins was in it. I didn't know that. Now I won't waste my money on it. Thanks!” Sarge 8:24:47 PM 8/02/05 you wouldn't be wasting your money on it. It was a good movie. I just didn't like the way it ended.” 9:59:20 AM 8/03/05 “How did it end?” 10:12:14 AM 8/03/05 “The Heros won and the bad guys lost????? ;-)” 10:13:47 AM 8/03/05 “i didn't like the end either. after tom cruise blew the thing up i thought the [i]people[i] were going to save themselves. but then, it was like "ok, we're out of time. make em all fall down so we can roll the credits."” 10:31:03 AM 8/03/05 “now sarge if I tell you that it takes away that thought of What a frigging stupid way to end a movie...lol” 10:32:02 AM 8/03/05 “It's gotta be better than the ending to the Planet of the Apes remake. That was the worst ending in movie history.” 10:32:35 AM 8/03/05 “I liked the original "War of the Worlds" better.” 2:20:10 AM 8/04/05 “i generally hated the pota remake, but i kinda dug the ending. i guess they wanted to keep the surprise element and not have the same ending. pota is probably the only tim burton movie i dont like, and i think the problem had more to do with the script than with burtons directing” 7:04:36 AM 8/04/05 “You liked the ending??? Wow!” 7:06:19 AM 8/04/05 “yea, but i hated the rest of it” 7:06:59 AM 8/04/05 “Can we at least agree the original POTA had one of the best endings in movie history?” 7:08:52 AM 8/04/05 “I can't believe some friends talked me into seeing this tonight. Yipee!” 5:31:51 PM 8/12/05 “its a good-old fashioned blast of a popcorn movie. turn off your brain and enjoy the fireworks” 5:33:31 PM 8/12/05 “thanks for the tip” 5:40:01 PM 8/12/05 “it is good (kind off) till the ending and it sucked” 6:29:54 PM 8/12/05 “sarge, what did you think of the movie” 12:16:22 AM 8/13/05 “I ditched it. We went to Red Lobster then I dropped a friend at the theatre and went home. It was 9:45 and I had done 3 separate workouts yesterday so I was beat, especially after all that seafood. Plus my wife is going away for the weekend so I wanted to see her. I'll catch it on video.” 6:19:23 AM 8/13/05 “DO NOT READ THIS POST UNLESS YOU WANT MOVIE ENDING SPOILED I thought the ending was a trick. I just remember seeing a commercial for the new ABC alien invasion show, the one where the little girl says "Mommy, you smell different." So, when Tom Cruise was hugging his son at the end, all I could think was "Kill him." That would have made a great ending:)” 10:50:48 AM 8/13/05 “I wonder how many people realize that Spielberg created the whole thing as a rejection of the current war on terror. His position is that the values of freedom, left to work, will defeat terrorism more effectively than tanks and bombs. Hence, the defeat of the alien invaders simply by surviving long enough to outlast them. Trust the innate protection. That is obviously a debateable point, but I do think that he captured the likely end of the war on terrorism much more effectively than anyone else in this movie. It is not likely to be a big, bombastic victory, but a strangely ambivalent quiet.” 11:06:12 AM 8/13/05 “I did wonder how with the world being torn apart by giant alien machines, that street in Boston comes out fine.” 11:42:53 AM 8/13/05
