“The new Nikon Sky and Earth 80mm spotting scope with a 20-80x80 zoom arrived last night. It is a beauty. Wish I'd had it in Maine last week. 3:23:33 PM 7/01/05 “who you going to shoot with that?” 3:25:50 PM 7/01/05 “You can't shoot people with that kind of scope silly! You have to beat them to death with it!” 3:27:39 PM 7/01/05 “Just the thing every Peeping Tom needs.” 3:29:22 PM 7/01/05 “You plannin on usin that in West Virginia?” 3:42:31 PM 7/01/05 “Indeed, that will be one place. Like I said, I wish I'd had it in Maine last week! I might have figured out what those big ships were out on the horizon.” 4:54:43 PM 7/01/05 “For the cost of those things, I don't think it will get used to beat anything.” 4:55:21 PM 7/01/05 “what do you mount that on. what does it look like in the veiwing window.” 5:01:21 PM 7/01/05 “I guess this is something that can extend your horizons.” 5:01:34 PM 7/01/05 “That is a beauty. Do you have a link to it? All I can locate are the 20-60x80 zoom models.” 5:12:40 PM 7/01/05 “lmao waterdog said mount :D” 5:46:09 PM 7/01/05 “well well, two minds alike, thats what I am mountin about last edited: 7/01/05 5:51:57 PM” 5:51:32 PM 7/01/05 “Here's the link to the one I bought. Not that at this price it is a reconditioned job by the Nikon factory. I cannot find anything wrong with mine, at least at the moment. The new ones cost about twice that. It mounts in a standard photo tripod, medium to heavy. I will check it out on my medium one before I decide whether to buy a heavier one, but I'm thinking I might feel more comfortable with the most sturdy tripod around.” 6:03:20 PM 7/01/05 “Link ?” 6:20:53 PM 7/01/05 “Doh! Everything but the most vital thing! http://www.opticsplanet.net/nikon-spottingscope-sky-earth-20-60x80mm.html” 6:51:15 PM 7/01/05 “Thanks. It's beautiful. I hope you get a lot of use and enjoyment with it.” 8:48:10 PM 7/01/05 “"I wish I'd had it in Maine last week! I might have figured out what those big ships were out on the horizon." Geobeet That was the Chinese invasion fleet. Quick, call Sarge!!” 11:02:51 AM 7/02/05 “I have a cheap pair of binoculars I carry sometime. Tasco 35 x 7, 22 oz. They really make a difference when I look at the stars or the neighbor's window.” 2:51:21 PM 7/02/05 3:21:50 PM 7/02/05 “Space Weather News for July 2, 2005 http://spaceweather.com SUNSPOTS GALORE: Only a few days ago the sun was completely blank, but now it is peppered with fast-growing sunspots. So far these active regions have produced no strong solar flares, but this could change if their dynamic growth continues. Visit spaceweather.com for movies of the growing 'spots and safe solar observing tips. REMINDER: Far from Earth, NASA's Deep Impact spacecraft is about to poke a hole through the crust of Comet Tempel 1. When? July 3rd at 10:52 p.m. PDT (July 4th at 0552 UT). A plume of gas and dust emerging from the hole could cause the comet to brighten so much that sky watchers on Earth can see it through binoculars or even with the unaided eye from dark= sky sites. Observers in the western United States, Hawaii, Mexico and parts of Central and South America are favored. From those places the comet hangs in the southwestern sky after sunset on July 3rd--at the right place and time to view the impact. If the comet does brighten, it will look like a faint fuzzy smudge not far from the bright star Spica. Visit spaceweather.com for a sky map and observing tips.” 4:58:26 PM 7/02/05
