A mother duck had 5 ducklings hatch today at the nest under our mailbox. 4 eggs still remain.

4 ducks are fine, but one appears injured.

He moves in circles. Might have hurt himself in the fall off the curb.

I found this online:

TEMPORARY CARE: Any sick, injured, or newly hatched ducklings needs to go on a heating pad on the low setting. Do NOT put them in water. Use an empty aquarium, cardboard box, or other appropriate container, line it with paper towels or an old towel, and put a cover on it. Ducklings can jump up to 2 ft. out of a box. Put water in a small, shallow container such as the lid of a peanut butter jar. Grind dry dog or cat food up and sprinkle in the water. The duckling should peck at the food. Baby cereal will also work. This is for temporary care only. Ducklings need Turkey or Game Bird Starter as a proper food (from a feed store). Do NOT feed a duckling bread or regular cereal (corn flakes, Cheerios, oatmeal) as it does not provide any nutrition for the duckling's health.

I don't know of any conservatories in the Harrisburg area.

“The Humane Society in my area isn't open until noon, so he's in my car w/ food and water and shelter until then. He may be beyond saving, but he's got spirit. His name is Kissyduck.

I was going to leave him w/ a phone #, but they have a sign saying that it's illegal to abondon them.

call the zoo, all vet offies
you will find one. they will be able to walk you throu all that needs to be done.you will have to drive it to them, they are not allowed to pick them up (well that is the law in NY ) he needs to be checked out. if you can find a vet that handles wild life that is even better. some vets will take on the situation for free. go inwith a kid and if you dont have any. find one!

ps, you have him in the car? please take him out and put him back with his family, nature has a funny way of taking care of its self.

“the blue jay baby is doing fine. The cockatiels have decided to tend to the little guy lol...though I still feed it with a syringe. He has good appitite wanting to be fed every hour or two.”

you need to have as much of no human contact with his as possible.
you should be feeding him with a puppet of a adult blue jay. you can not allow him to think you are his mother, that is the worse thing you can do.
he will becoame to dependent on yo, then not want to leave.
putting him with the other birds a good, just keep an eye on how they treat him, if at any time they start to peck at him, remove him ASAP

you might want to contact a local rehaber who has delt with wildlife. if the law finds out you have the blue jay and you have no licence you might get introuble.”

i can not even take care of a wild bird (not pigons because they are considered rats LOL)

but I need a different licence for taking care of birds of prey.”

He's in their hands now.

I just hope they don't destroy Kissyduck. He wasn't moving too well, but maybe they can save him.”

“sarge you did the right thing. if kissyduck( ok the thought of a grown man naming a bird that rocks my socks) was having to tough of a time just doing the normal things in life then you did what was needed. kissyduck would have fallen to prey and could have died a pretty bad way. being so young and weak would have made it even harder for the mother to tend to the healthy ones and she would have just moved the others and left her for dead. but then again i think you said she already did that right? it was her way of making sure that her family will continue to grow strong and thrive and not have to be bogged down to the sickly bird.

We got to see a baby owl last night. Turns out owls nest right across the street from us! One of the babies left the nest and was injured. Poor thing got itself to an area that was kinda like a little fortress for it but the flies were all over it. Birch spent a good hour trying to find a wildlife rehaber. He managed! Hoping the little fuzzball makes it.
I was amazed to find owls in our neighborhood. I guess it makes sense though, there's chipmunks, squirels and rabbits, water and huge trees.”
