or on the Via Ferrata Bridge and headwall ...

I haven't been there, but it looks like a neat area. Thanks for the link!

I did a guick stop on the way to the Dolly Sods hike. It's very impressive. I walked up the corridor trail to a spot underneath the bridge. That short hike was not easy. We are going back to do the Via Ferrata on Labor Day weekend camping at the Big Bend Campground. We have reserved two campsites at Big Bend and have room if anyone wants to join us. Contact me or The Frig.

Might see you there. That's when I'll be there too Hikerhead.

Obviously you think the cost is worth it considering Sods is right there and free.

What do you mean "not easy". Some people in our group are not hikers and I think they might be better off staying on Senaca. What do you think?

I've never hiked Seneca so I can't really say but I've heard it's not too hard. If they can hike Seneca I'm sure Nelson ROcks won't be a problem. We'll be at Nelson Rocks Sat. Are you doing the Ferrata? Where are you staying?

I find it difficult to describe trails. It all depends on how many stops you take. Most folks can hike anywhere they want, some will just take longer to get there than others.

Seneca is a piece of cake unless you climb, which I know nothing about. The hike is a trail you'll see families on. I had to give some water last year. Usually they're drinking sodas. Very touristy.

We'll go to Dolly Sods most likely again also to hike.

I thought maybe you meant there were some tough scrambles or something. If it's just elevation then we should be ok with most of the group.

We rent a cabin. There is 12-14 of us. I don't really consider this a camping trip b/c of that, but we do a lot of outdoor stuff, including caving.

The guy organizing it was considering Nelson Rock Preserve, but none of us had been there, hence the thread.

I'd like to do the Ferrata also, but I'll need to see how my knee has healed by then. (acl reconstruction)

From what you're describing, the trails there might be a good option, especially if they're more scenic than the Sods.

The part I did has had a lot of trail work done to it. The trail bed was almost all rock. I don't know about what lays above the bridge but I bet it will be an awesome view when you get to the top. The road into it is called Nelson Gap Rd. It's the first road to the left after you turn off of 33 onto 28 at Judy Gap, before the road starts climbing the mtn coming from Seneca. We have about 9 signed up for this trip

I guess you know about the North Folk Mtn Trail that runs on the ridge behind Seneca Rocks.
That would be a nice easy day hike. Check it out under Past Trips for info and some good pics. You can drive to the trail at the top of north mtn and in 15 minutes be on the edge of the cliffs.
