Hey! I haven't shown my face around here lately - because I've been getting paid to go on wilderness adventures :D. Well, one trip anyway - I love my job here, thing is it's only seasonal filling about six months from May through November. That leaves me with the winter months unemployed. Now I know this doesn't make a great carreer option - but I'm not ready to settle down into a solid carreer yet.

What I'm looking for is winter employment options across the country - I have no idea what's out there. What I was thinking was something along the lines of a ski resort in colorado or anywhere, or possibly a park somewhere, as my degree is in parks and recreation - although most parks cut back in the winter months. Also open would be something in a southern state.

I'd love to hear your ideas, specific places, etc. I just want to know what kind of opportunities are available and what types of jobs I can begin researching - and if this is even a good idea. I'd love to see other states, especially out west, or in the southwest. Thanks for your input.

A lot of people in your age bracket come hang out in CO and work the resorts during the ski season - anything and everything from bus boy to waiter to whatever. They are pretty much earning meal and lift ticket money living 6 or 12 to a two or three room place.

they all have big giant smiles though.

you should check it out.

same in NM as CO for ski resorts. I heard ads for both Sandia (not a big resort, local family level ski area) and Taos for the ski operations themselves. Bartending and waiting, housekeeping services would be the easiest to find.

seasonal work in Death Valley perhaps - I know at least one seasonal ranger that moves to Death Valley for the winter and comes back north for the summer
