Hiking in Ohio and Lower MI

“I'm a newbie looking for some good places in NW Ohio to go hiking. Any suggestions?”

“head south of columbus to zaleski, or shawnee, great trails.”

“If you live in the Toledo area, the best spot is Oak Openings Preserve/Metropark to the west of the city. It's got about 100 miles of trail/hikeable firelanes.

The Lake Erie islands have some possibility. In fact, I think that the state of Ohio purchased most of North Bass Island in the past year or so. The plan was to make it a rustic camping island.

There are many, many places for good long dayhikes in the region. I will defer to Nigal and Birch on the Shawnee/Zaleski. I only hear good things about those places.”
