Red Cross
I just wanted to ask because the Red Cross is suffering right now from a huge deficit. They could really use your blood. I gave today. It was very easy and only took about an hour.

So Go Do It!!!!!

Remember...the life you save could be your own!

I'm some where over 6 gallons, should check more closely. They really like the O-neg, CMV-neg. 85 platelete donations also. Arms have donor divets.

My last donation was July 1. I donate every two months. I have O- blood, so they really like me :-)

Yeah, I'm O-Pos...so I'm universal.

BTW...I've had several people ask me about the tattoo and piercing thing...as long as it was done at a licensed parlor then it's OK to donate blood. Here in TN and in KY all parlors are licensed and closely monitored by the state for sanitation.

So unless you got your tattoo in prison...go donate!!!

I've told this story here before, but ...
I had Hep A twice when I was a kid (can you say First Need water purifier?) and was always told I could never give blood and it always bothered me.

Anyway, a few months ago there was a blood drive at our school and it really put me in a funk that I couldn't participate.

Suddenly I thought - I've never given a girlfriend Hep A, so what gives?

I told my story to the nurse and when I said it was almost fifty years ago she put me throught the selection process.

I am now a registered donor and they call me at regular intervals. I got called two weeks ago and they will call me again in mid-August.

I will give again when I can get my weight back up. Last time I donated at the weight I am presently at, it hit me very hard afterwards.

I wanna say I have donated like 2 gallons total. I gotta do it more.

I've got one more cancer free year to go before I can give blood. I benefitted from blood transfusions last year, so I definitely owe some blood. I'm looking forward to my opportunity.

Now cleared to donate
I was turned away years ago because I had a heart murmur, but recently I had an echocardiogram and the doc said based on that I am okay to give blood.

currahee, just curious what living in England has to do with you not being able to give blood. What about soliders who are stationed overseas for a period of time. Are they unable to give blood after that?

I'm O-Pos and give blood about six times a year. Always makes me feel good......And kinda light headed

there's a restriction on donating blood if you've traveld to certain countries during some specified time frames.

So yeah, a lot of soldiers are likely precluded from donating.

Ewker - mad cow is the problem with donating after being in England - the blood donating organizations are highly motivated to keep that possibility out of the blood supply

Uh, what HOI & Roam said. I lived there in the early 80's when my dad was stationed in Felixstowe, England. No donations accepted from me.
