I think i'm going to start my section hikes of every mile of trail in the GSMNP soon. I think i'm going to start West and work my way generally East.

Anyone have any info about The wolf Ridge Trail, Long Hungry Ridge, and the twentymile trail and loop trail?

They are first on my plan, I'll be posting up all the notes i take on each trail as i do them.

After i hit the trails on the GSMP map, and brown book, i'll research into others not talked about as much, and then perhaps start on manways.

See yas on the trail

Opie, I did Twentymile to Long Hungry Ridge to Gregory Bald and back down Wolf Ridge about 3 weeks ago. We missed the Azaleas blooming n the Bald but it was a good trip. Coming down Wolf Ridge you have 3 or 4 creek crossing ranging from mid calf to knee deep. These crossing are only about 1.5 miles from the trailhead so unless you want to get wet right away go up Twentymile first.
We stayed at the cs93 on the 20mile trail. It is only 2 miles from the trailhead. There is another cs92 on Long Hungry Ridge (4-6miles from the trailhead) CS 13 is nice but fill up with water before you get there. The water supply is downhill from cs13 and from what I heard sucks. The best water is off trail before you go up to Gregory Bald at Moore Spring where the old shelter use to be.

The water source at #13 isn't that bad, ewker :-) That's where I got my water when I stayed there. As you are facing the campsites, turn right and follow that trail for a bit. There was a good flow of water there back in April. The trail to the water is downhill but it isn't steep. Plus, it's a lot closer than going back to Moore Spring for water.

The bloom is pretty heavy in and around Cades Cove right now.

I would like to go back up to Gregory in about a week. But I won't be able to go back up until toward the end of July as I have things planned with the kids.

Never experienced any trouble finding water there. Although the first time I walked way too far down Gregory Bald trail to a source that I saw on the way up the trail. The one book says 200 yards downtrail from the campsite, which is approximately correct. But you have to look for it. As you hike down it will be on the left, but off the trail. When you see some moisture on the trail, leave the trail and after 20-30 feet you should be able to see a good water source right nearby. It is difficult to see it from the trail. Actually, my memory places the location closer than 200 yards, but I'm getting older.

Nowslimmer, there must be more than one water source at #13. The place I got water was down the trail to the right of the camping area. The water was a small stream, and it crossed the trail. Sure didn't have to look for it.

when we were there the trail was extremely muddy and so was the water. The Moore spring water is damn cold and refreshing. You have to pass it if you come up that way so why not fill up.
