Well, I did it. Rode it in to work today.

1500 cc's is a lot of power.

Defensive driving was invented by cyclists!
Phad, be careful in morning traffic, to many peeps, flappin on cell phones, reading the paper, slapping on war paint, etc..
Keep your eyes open and your head movin from side to side, ALWAYS give yourself an out! When I ride, I hug the center line as much as possible, that way I have 2 escape routes if I need them. Be safe and have fun!

WHy do some riders hug the center line?
It seems like a good way to lose a leg.

Phaedrus, how many horses does that monster kick out?

Have you ridden much before this?

And for goodness sake, don't remove the #&%!$in' mufflers!!!

How do all those Hardly Worthitson riders get away with making all that noise?
Straight pipes are illegal!!

MarkO
I hug the line for many reasons.
Easy visibility (for me) of whats coming my way. I can easily be seen by on coming traffic. I can be seen in the rear view of the guy ahead of me. If anything is lying in the road it is easily seen and avoided.
And as I stated earlier, if something stupid begins to happen I have 2 directions to react, instead of just the ditch line.
Make sense?

The bike already has custom pipes, a windshield and saddlebags. It's loud, but not obnoxious loud like some. It's loud enough to give me the impression that a quick flick of the wrist can inform a driver I'm there.

I've had three bikes before this. The largest was a 1100 cc Honda shadow. This bike is head and shoulders above that one as far as size and power goes.

On the dyno, when we custom tuned the powercommander, it was putting out 78hp at 4800rpm.

Warning !!!!!!!
You WILL be cruising down the road one fine day and someone will pull up to a stop sign on a cross street or the exit from a parking lot. They will look right at you on your bike and then they WILL pull right out in front of you. Not a matter of IF, but a matter of WHEN. It has happened to me and every single person I know who has ridden a motorcycle. Expect EVERY driver todo that to you and you will have a long and happy moto

Agreed. I've been knocked off a bike once and escaped without injury because I got lucky and was able to ditch into a grassy median.

I've had too many close encounters with critters at high speed to ride again. Maybe a bike with a full roll cage like the BMW the police use in Europe. I know if I ride a bike, I'll be hooked again. Really don't want to know what gravel feels like.

You ride left or right of the center-of-the-road because the center is where most of the oil drippings (etc)from other vehicles are. Easy to tell the newbies riding down the center of the road.

Phaedrus, You Nut !!!
Pakratz, I never trusted the on-coming traffic enough to hug the center line.

I rode in the right wheel track and certainly stayed out of the "grease strip" in the center of the lane.

cats, I know what ya mean about getting hooked again.
In '84 I sold my '80 BMW R65 to a good friend who still has it but does not ride it anymore.
That was a fun scooter, no monster but a nice ride.
I think he's saving it for me!
Oy, the exhaust system alone is way expensive and surely in need of replacement.
Then the Bings would need to have all the gaskets replaced after all this time.

My ER doctor brother-in-law calls them "murdercycles" and riders without helmets are "organ donors".

He works in Bethesda, Md near the Beltway and I-270.
They have a helicopter pad......nuff said.

1 liter of displacement is going to get you a LOT of HP in a bike like that.

Sick power.

That damn V-Max has more horse power than half the cars on the road. Thing would just about light 'em up at 4,000rpm in just about any gear.
