Got a news bit on NPR this morning. Kudos to a bit of European environmental politics.

Farmers are getting added subsidies for practicing good environmental policies...eg. not tilling up to the edge of a waterway...or planting a field of wildflowers for songbirds...or not using dangerous chemicals. They also get all subsidies stripped if they are found in violation of environmental policies. We could learn a few things over here?

Permaculture solutions had best be worked from the bottom and up. Individual farmers and consumers and their aggregate choices can produce positive results.

Top heavy government subsidies and mandates are notoriously expensive and prone to corruption. The governments can serve well in the role of research and advice.
