Car insurance and PO boxes

“Ok, so I'm moving to a county where its a well known fact that insurance rates are higher than the surrounding counties (thank you City of Detroit).

If I get a PO Box in the county I live in now, will that fly with the insurance company? Do I actually have to give them a residential address?

In New Jersey, everyone pays the same rates, regardless of what county or town you live in. This way, people in the more rural areas help subsidize the cost of insurance in the urban areas, where the cost of insurance is damn near unaffordable.”

That kind of sucks for a safe driver that has never been in an accident who has to pay the same rate as someone that has had multiple collisions.”

Monroe man named in alleged fraud ring

A Monroe man was one of eight people arrested on charges of defrauding insurance carriers by registering New York City vehicles upstate to take advantage of lower insurance costs, authorities announced today.

Richard Shavel, 44, of Monroe and the others were each charged in Albany County — where most of the vehicles were falsely registered — with felony counts of insurance fraud and offering a false instrument.

The scheme cut the total insurance costs for their commercial vehicles by more than $1.4 million, Albany County District Attorney P. David Soares said.

“When I was in insurance we had people try to do that all the time. Where it is tagged and titled..it has to be insured there PERIOD!”

“A lot of city folks have summer homes in the catskills. They might come up for the summer & a few weekends but often the car (while registered in the catskills) continues to be driven (most of the time in the city)

These city vehicles get into a LOT of accidents & stolen all the time.
