Car insurance and PO boxesView MessagesViewing posts 1 to 20 of 20 messages posted.
“Ok, so I'm moving to a county where its a well known fact that insurance rates are higher than the surrounding counties (thank you City of Detroit). If I get a PO Box in the county I live in now, will that fly with the insurance company? Do I actually have to give them a residential address? WHen I had this question, the first place I thought of to get help was TT. You guys are geniuses. :)” 1:22:37 PM 7/12/05 “They're going to want the address of where the car is parked.” 1:24:27 PM 7/12/05 “People have tried giving the right street address but a zipcode in an area with lower rates but the insurance companies got wise to that.” 1:26:13 PM 7/12/05 “Bison is right - I have a PO Box in one town, live in another. Physical address is what counts.” 1:26:42 PM 7/12/05 “Dang it. That's what I thought! Oh well, my drive to work and school will be shorter, so I guess I save gas money....” 1:27:22 PM 7/12/05 “Don't feel bad, I just moved my policy to CO and it's more than 1/3 more per year than it was in VA, ouch!” 1:31:05 PM 7/12/05 “don't worry Bison, you can afford it ;)” 1:32:26 PM 7/12/05 “Dang Ewker, ya beat me to it!!” 1:42:33 PM 7/12/05 “Yes I can! ha ha! Still I'd rather be spending that money on something else, like gear!” 1:46:51 PM 7/12/05 “NYC residents do that all the time in the CAtskills. Drive our rates thru the roof. They drive crazy in the city & JUST as crazy when they visit the country.” 2:01:42 PM 7/12/05 “and, if you lie on teh application or renewal, its fraud and could get you canceled and have any claims denied.” 2:20:38 PM 7/12/05 “It only counts on what you tell 'em.” 10:39:30 PM 7/12/05 “If you can do that in Michigan. In New Jersey, everyone pays the same rates, regardless of what county or town you live in. This way, people in the more rural areas help subsidize the cost of insurance in the urban areas, where the cost of insurance is damn near unaffordable.” 12:00:39 AM 7/13/05 “Ditto what Roam said - the risk is mis-stating a material fact and having coverage denied on the mother of all wrecks where the driver hits a Mercedes and then a Ferrari and then a McLarin.” 8:55:37 AM 7/13/05 ““If you can do that in Michigan. This living is darn expensive!” 9:46:42 AM 7/13/05 “Turns out that it'll only be another $25 per year for the change in address. I thought it would be significantly higher. Renter's insurance is more expensive than my condo insurance would be. That's crazy. Oh well!” 9:22:42 AM 7/15/05 It's about time............ “Monroe man arrested on insurance fraud charges December 18, 2006 Monroe man named in alleged fraud ring A Monroe man was one of eight people arrested on charges of defrauding insurance carriers by registering New York City vehicles upstate to take advantage of lower insurance costs, authorities announced today. Richard Shavel, 44, of Monroe and the others were each charged in Albany County — where most of the vehicles were falsely registered — with felony counts of insurance fraud and offering a false instrument. The scheme cut the total insurance costs for their commercial vehicles by more than $1.4 million, Albany County District Attorney P. David Soares said. Chris McKenna” 10:00:28 PM 12/18/06 “When I was in insurance we had people try to do that all the time. Where it is tagged and titled..it has to be insured there PERIOD!” 1:56:04 PM 12/19/06 “A lot of city folks have summer homes in the catskills. They might come up for the summer & a few weekends but often the car (while registered in the catskills) continues to be driven (most of the time in the city) These city vehicles get into a LOT of accidents & stolen all the time. Drives our insurance rates WAY up.” 6:29:10 PM 12/19/06
