im only a lukewarm metallica fan, but i just watched this documentary on the making of "st anger" and thought it was excellent. i also think st anger is an extraordinary album, and im not by any stretch of the imagination a metal-head

I’ve been wanting to see this also. I’m one of those ass hole “down from day 1” fans that quit listening after that Black Album. I won’t go so far as to say they sold out, but I will say they stopped being progressive and ground breaking. But then again, most bands now days do this on just their second album (Disturbed anyone?).

Thanks for the headsup Crash!

Just because I am bored I will say this. Who gives a rat's ass if a band "sell's out" Is their music still good? Does it sound like the band? Then it is good? A prime example of a sell out, for those country fans is Shania Twain. She has absolutely no problems discussing her marketing strategies in interviews. Her husband is Mutt Lang for cripes sake, one of the biggest promoter/producers in rock. For every album she puts out she records two. One is country, the other is a pop version of the country songs. Is she a sell out because she markets herself and her product?

their music is still so-so, but the band has gone off the deep end like most "celebrities"...they actually tried to sue a small local band for using the same 3 cord progression that they use in a lot of their songs saying it was a matalica "trademark"...what @ssclowns!!

ditto. ditto. ditto.

the black album is the fulcrum. before it, their albums were raw and full of energy. distortion and so-so accustics? sure, but the albums had a "live music" quality that made them so great.

post black, all their music is so incredibly over-produced that all the energy is gone.

shania twain is hot, a great singer, and really a good performance artist; it's her song writing that kills me.
there are 3rd graders who could write better lyrics.
some of her songs are downright painful to listen to, knowing that a grown adult wrote them.

still, i have more respect for shania than i do metallic due to their pathetic, whining, litigeous behavior that timecline mentioned.

This is the best overall DVD I have ever seen, including movies and concerts.

I was really sad when Britney Spears 'sold out'.
The purity of her 'vision' has been lost.

st. anger has a lot more in common with their pre-black album days than it does with the black album and load

think speed metal with great hooks and production values, but not over-doing it

I got off the AT last year to see Metallica in Roanoke. I've been a fan for a long time. Last year's show was fair. MAybe I'll check out the flic.

Timecline - that bit about suing a band over a chord progression was an internet hoax. At least the bit I heard about was.

mustaine was in the movie. metallicas therapist (yes, therapist) got ullrich and mustaine together and mustaine was nearly in tears, crying how it sucks to be number 2 and to be such a loser and everything metallica touches turns to gold and everything he touches turns to sht and wah and wah and wah. it was classic cinema

oh and i wish you guys would have came to me and said "dude, you need to go to aa"

and then theres ullrich "hetfield tells me he loves me when we/re alone but hes such a dick when the rest of the guys are around and im mr sensitive euro-fag guy and theyre a bunch of macho arseholes and they can jst fck off!"

and then theres hammet "hi. i have nothing to say, even tho im the lead guitarist, which is normally the position most reserved for the biggest prima donna in the band, outside of lead singer, which, in this case, it is the lead singer, whos not so much a prima donna as a fcking head case"

and then newstead "theyre a bunch of poopyheads for kicking me out of the band. CLIIIIIIFFFFFFF!!!!!"

They're Great....They're OK....They Suck...
Hetfield...the weakest link? Yeah, right! Take away Hetfield and you have no Metallica.

And regarding the bassest nobody knows (here, at least)...ever hear of Suicidal Tendencies? No?

I've never been a huge fan of metal, but my first concert ever was Monsters of Rock back in 1988 at the MetroDome in Minneapolis. It was Kingdom Come, Dokken, Metallica, Scorpions and..........um, I'm having a senior moment, Sammy Hagar, David Lee Roth, 5150, ??????? My mind has spaced. They were the headliners, too.

Anyway, I was 18 and had lived a very sheltered life up to that point. Boy, were my eyes opened!!! There were head bangers everywhere. I was totally shocked that the guys in the row behind us openly were smoking pot. I remember Dokken fighting with each other on stage while performing, Scorpions playing The Zoo (my favorite), and Sammy climging about 4 stories high on the scaffolding while singing.

This is really bugging me now. I feel so stupid.

Lucky!!! I haven't heard that song in years and years. They never play it on the radio, and I don't have any of my Scorpion albums anymore.
