“Anyone have a SixMoon tent?

I bid one in on ebay at $75 thinking there was no way it would go for that.

It ships tomorrow. I saw them set up at Trail Days and decided that if the price was right, I would find out if I liked it.

If I don't like the tent, I will have one for sale. If I do, I pretty much got a steal.”

“We will probably end up buying one this fall. It is between that and the Henry Shires. I'm hoping Ron will bring the tent to the Gathering this fall so we can look at it again. I liked it when we saw it two years ago, but we weren't in the market for a tent then.”

“That Europa 05 could be a wet shelter from condensation. The condensation is gonna run down the roof and then right down the net walls to the inside of your bathtub floor.
I don't think the design has enough air flow for a single wall.
The big problem with single walls is the condensation and where it drips to.”

“From everything I have read, SS, I think that is the major downfall. After a trip or two, I should have enough data to rate this tent.”

“The worse condensation I've had in my Henry Shires was this 'winter's' Ocala Trip in FL. We camped next to a lake on a very still no breeze night and all three (or was it four) TarpTents had heavy condensation. I was solo in my 2man so I was well away from the walls and the drips just ran down and into the netting.”

I would like a new, light weight shelter. Biggest factor for me is it's weight. I cannot decide between these and Henry Shires.”

“Have you taken a look at the Integral Design Silshelter? I've used mine for a couple of years and really like it.”

“After a considerable delay, I finally got the tent. (I didn't realize I had forgot to change my address on paypal and the tent shipped from California to Townsend by way of Marion, Arkansas)

Easy to see how condensation can become a problem, but I am going to test this tent design thoroughly during the next few months. The thing I was most surprised with was the floor space. There is a lot of room at floor level and should allow good storage of gear.

Seam sealing and treating the floor to keep my sleeping mat from becoming a skateboard are next.”

“Hope it is everything and more that Ive read about for a super lightweight shelter. Enjoy , and let me know how if sets up and does in driving rain storms. I am thinking of bringing my Kelty Sage 2 instead of my Eureka BackCountry just because the Sage 2 has a full coverage fly and I know for a fact the rain God's will smile on me in October. I am likeing my long loop ( first option) for the intended route.”

My Europa II has been flawless... From pooring rain on the Calif. Coast to 35mph+ winds in the Sierras...

“I just saw wendigrrl's lunar duo. As pleased as I have been with the Europa, I am certain that I now have to get the Lunar Duo. It is huge and weighs about 40 ounces.

The only thing that scared me about this tent is that when we hiked the N/S trail at LBL, I got up the last morning and they were both in the truck because of high winds.

The tent appears to have tie down flaps. You might send an e-mail to the company to check it out.

I suggest that you read the reviews: "It has held up in 60 mph winds with out any damage to the tent."

“It does great in high winds. The reason I ended packing my stuff during the LBL, was because I couldn't sleep with the high winds, thinking we are going to get one hell of a rain any minute. That would have been the first time I'd had that experience in that tent. Since then, I've had it out on top of Mt Rogers in some pretty high winds and rain, and it did great. Stomper ended up sharing the tent with me because her's had a leek. The one thing I try to make sure I do in high winds is stake down the two extra tie outs. On a average day, I don't usually do those.
This last trip at LBL, we camped near the water and had some high winds come in off the lake. didn't have a problem. I love this tent.

“The only thing to remember is that it isnt' a "free standing" tent. That's the only other tent I've added to my collection, because there are a few times when a free standing tent works better, like areas where you can't get a stake to work in the ground.
Stomper and I used the Lunar Duo on this last LBL hike to keep the weight down and it worked just fine for two people.”

“The guy out tag on my Europa looked like it was working loose so Ron told me to ship it to him. He will look at it and repair if necessary.

I was just about ready to order a Lunar Duo, but he told me he is coming out with the Haven next month and I might want to hold off and look at it first. He stated it won't replace the Lunar Duo but will have more options.

I am going to wait and have a look see at the new design before I order. He is supposed to have it up on his site by late October.”

The TarpTent types sell tents that are not for every backpacker. You have to think about where you are going to set up these tents.”
