Need advice on Dog PacksView MessagesViewing posts 1 to 24 of 24 messages posted.
Dog Packs “Several TTer's have met Mindy my mixed Lab and chow and titled her Trail Dog. I also have an 8 month registered Black Lab 90 lbs and ready for the trail and have looked at several Dog Packs on the market. Any TTer's have advice as too what you would recommend. Price is no problem. Thanks-------- Fridge.” 5:08:47 PM 7/23/05 “When I read dog packs, I thought you meant a pack of dogs!” 5:16:14 PM 7/23/05 “Same here, Tango. When it comes to dog "packs" I think of Sarabelle's Pakpak."” 5:50:56 PM 7/23/05 “I bought the Wenaha (I think I recognize the name) carried by REI a few years back. Here is a web page on the topic: http://home.earthlink.net/~projseawolf/dogpack.htm I'm sure there are many better packs available now. last edited: 7/23/05 6:16:38 PM” 6:12:56 PM 7/23/05 “Also, consider some booties... especially until your dogs paws harden. They can also help protect the bandaging if your dog gets cut feet.” 6:19:51 PM 7/23/05 “Thanks pedxing. I use the same pack for my older Lab and that pack is about 9 years old and still usable. Has anyone used MountainSmith, Kelty, or ruffwear? Is there a pack on the market that has a hydration bladder in the packs? pedxing !! I never use Booties until winter time. My labs run Free in the Mountains , Mt Rogers, and White Top. Virginia, but thanks for the Info. My Dogs are pure country, and tough as EarthNsky, and TownDog. Any input to Dog packs will be greatly appreciated. Thanks. the FRIDGE last edited: 7/23/05 7:56:31 PM” 7:49:55 PM 7/23/05 since my previous comments... “regarding dog gear have fallen on deaf ears and I have been designated as derranged and incoherent, I'll refrain from making any recommendations, unless personally solicited...signed... The derranged one...” 9:36:31 PM 7/23/05 “stikmon? If you have no input, Don't waste your time. And don't waste mine.” 10:00:09 PM 7/23/05 “Dog fuego.” 10:05:47 PM 7/23/05 “i got a pack for my chocolate lab off: http://wolfpacks.com/ i got her the banzai pack... which is supposedly the best pack off the site: The Banzai™ dog pack is Wolf Packs® top of the line design. Tough Ballistic nylon bush guards double as handy outer pockets that zip closed. Horizontal compression straps squeeze the load forward, toward the dog's shoulders - the strongest part of a dog's back. 3M Scotchlite™ reflective trim assures that your dog is visible to night time traffic. Choose from our color selection of tough Cordura® Plus nylon. Ballistic nylon is always black. she LOVES it... it hasn't seemed to give her any problems and there is plenty of space to store her food, water, towel, etc. it's a little pricey, at 74 bucks, but it was worth it. the sizes run a little bit. i ordered her a large, but had to return it for a medium. i spoke with Paul re: exchanging the size and he was really friendly and easy to deal with. no problems at all.” 3:34:06 AM 7/24/05 “the sizes run a little biG*” 3:35:30 AM 7/24/05 “Thanks ScorchFire/ Heading to that site now.” 7:42:44 AM 7/24/05 “i got a outwourd hound pack off ebay that i love...i don't know if all dog packs are designed this way but the harness and pack are two seperate pieces joined by velcro...when we stop for a rest or to cross a creek i can just lift the pack part off with out undoing all the straps” 9:44:05 AM 7/25/05 “fridge, keep me posted on what you decide!” 9:48:55 PM 7/26/05 “Sure will, I am also looking at some booties with neoprene and a sole for serious winter treks. Thanks again!! I love my dogs.” 9:51:58 PM 7/26/05 “awesome! you're welcome.” 8:41:58 AM 7/27/05 Hi Scorch! “Wolfpacks are great packs. The website tells you how to measure your dog for a good fit - they definitely run big. Asher-dog weighs about 50 pounds and wears a small! lol My originial wonderdog (RIP PatchyG) wore an Adventure 18, which was good in its day. Wolfpacks have a lot of unique features that I haven't seen elsewhere. Good luck!” 12:06:18 PM 7/27/05 “Hey ScorchFire, I just bought a Bonzai, thanks for the Input. Your Good.” 6:01:43 PM 7/27/05 “Heidi® and Sierra® use Wolfpack dog packs exclusively. They give them 4-paws up.” 6:04:26 PM 7/27/05 “hey amy! how ya been? how's asher? you're welcome fridge :) glad to be of help.... let me know how it works out!” 12:04:49 AM 7/28/05 “Asher is great! We can't wait to get out on the trail - it has been too long! We are thinking of doing a trip to Elk State Forest (near Benezette, PA) to hear the bulls bugling in September. ![]() last edited: 7/28/05 11:23:35 AM” 11:23:03 AM 7/28/05 “your pic didn't go through :'( we'll have to take bailey and asher out on the trail together some time! they can show off their sexy packs.” 6:06:23 PM 7/28/05 “no pic...that's too bad because it was a picture of Asher NEKKID, wearing only his backpack. ;) what a stud! Asher loooooooves other dogs. We'll definitely have to get those 2 together. Maybe Bailey can help tire him out (remember how Asher "zooms" around (and around and around...) the campsite? LOL I think he thinks he's keeping "the herd" together or something. :)” 4:47:05 AM 7/29/05 “can't believe i missed that sexy picture. LOL, yes I remember asher zooming around... they can tire BOTH of themselves out cause bailey has some energy too! we should do a harriman trip in the fall!” 6:16:31 AM 7/29/05
