Kelty Big Bend packView MessagesViewing posts 1 to 13 of 13 messages posted.
“A few months ago I started a thread asking for advice on a big pack. I got some great advice, but never bought one. I stumbled on this pack http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp?id=0031771516869a&type=product&cmCat=search&returnString=_dyncharset=ISO-8859-1&hasJS=true&_D%3AhasJS=+&%2Fcabelas%2Fcommerce%2FCabelasCatalogNumberFinder.giftCertificateURL=%2Fcabelas%2Fen%2Ftemplates%2Fgiftcertificate%2Fgiftcertificate.jsp%3Fid%3D0005586990011a%26podId%3D0005586%26catalogCode%3DIB%26navAction%3Djump%26indexId%3D&_D%3A%2Fcabelas%2Fcommerce%2FCabelasCatalogNumberFinder.giftCertificateURL=+&QueryText=kelty+big+bend&_DARGS=%2Fcabelas%2Fen%2Fcommon%2Fsearch%2Fsearch-box.jsp.form9&N=4887&Ntk=Products&Ntx=mode+matchall&Nty=1&Ntt=kelty+big+bend&noImage=0&returnPage=search-results1.jsp in a store and have only been able to find it online at Cabellas. Kelty doesn't even list it on their site. Anyone heard of this one before? last edited: 7/25/05 10:09:50 AM” 10:09:22 AM 7/25/05 “No, but I was damn impressed by the length of that link! ;-) last edited: 7/25/05 10:18:30 AM” 10:16:20 AM 7/25/05 “I did a double take when it pasted all of that crap in. Surely that wasn't the link, yep, it was.” 10:18:12 AM 7/25/05 “Thank God for Cut-n-Paste, LOL.” 10:19:12 AM 7/25/05 “Dayhiker - Kelty sometimes re-names a pack for a large retailer. I have a Commance at home that I bought from Gander Mountain, which I eventually learned is a renamed (and cheaper!) Red Cloud. This one looks like my Commanche, which has been a great pack for heavy or winter trips. Yea, I'm looking closer and I think it is just a newer version of my pack. The straps, zippers, compartments and weight are comparable, thought its a bit smaller.” 10:20:04 AM 7/25/05 “Thanks, I'll read up on the Commanche.” 10:29:49 AM 7/25/05 “It looks like the commanche is about 5500 ci and this one is just under 5000.” 10:33:13 AM 7/25/05 “The scary thing for me is that there was a time 5500 ci's weren't enough, even for a summer trip! Working on the assumption these are similar packs, I'll say it would be a good one for long or gear-intensive trips. The suspension is very adjustable, the pack has decent balance and it has proven to be very durable.” 10:38:25 AM 7/25/05 “Thanks for the info. That's exactly what I want it for. Basecamping trips where I'm hauling lots of food and the occaisional adult beverage OR trips with my son where I have to carry the kitchen sink.” 10:41:38 AM 7/25/05 “The only brand pack I have had in 20 years has been Kelty and I have never had a problem with any of them. I am in the market for a new Trekker as my son needs a pack (my old Trekker) and the new ones are lighter than my current one.” 10:50:39 AM 7/25/05 “You really only need this part of the link: http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp?id=0031771516869a&type=product” 7:33:08 PM 7/25/05 “Hey Dayhiker, That big old pack sounds like a great deal. Fill her up and head out to the Tetons with us next month. Work smerk, ya think ya going to live forever?” 9:55:57 PM 7/25/05 “bateaux - wish I could. The Tetons are first on my list for western trips. You need to read "Teewinot" before you go. I do have 3 Smokies trips over 2 months though!!! Speaking of the Smokies, watch the football trip for out football thread hiking trip in OCt.” 6:02:09 AM 7/26/05
