I did a double take when it pasted all of that crap in. Surely that wasn't the link, yep, it was.

Dayhiker - Kelty sometimes re-names a pack for a large retailer. I have a Commance at home that I bought from Gander Mountain, which I eventually learned is a renamed (and cheaper!) Red Cloud. This one looks like my Commanche, which has been a great pack for heavy or winter trips.

Yea, I'm looking closer and I think it is just a newer version of my pack. The straps, zippers, compartments and weight are comparable, thought its a bit smaller.

Thanks, I'll read up on the Commanche.

It looks like the commanche is about 5500 ci and this one is just under 5000.

The scary thing for me is that there was a time 5500 ci's weren't enough, even for a summer trip!

Working on the assumption these are similar packs, I'll say it would be a good one for long or gear-intensive trips. The suspension is very adjustable, the pack has decent balance and it has proven to be very durable.

Thanks for the info. That's exactly what I want it for. Basecamping trips where I'm hauling lots of food and the occaisional adult beverage OR trips with my son where I have to carry the kitchen sink.

The only brand pack I have had in 20 years has been Kelty and I have never had a problem with any of them.

I am in the market for a new Trekker as my son needs a pack (my old Trekker) and the new ones are lighter than my current one.

bateaux - wish I could. The Tetons are first on my list for western trips. You need to read "Teewinot" before you go. I do have 3 Smokies trips over 2 months though!!! Speaking of the Smokies, watch the football trip for out football thread hiking trip in OCt.
