Franz Ferdinand was the guy who was assassinated by Gavrilo Princip, which was the precipitating event of WWI.

Man top 40 sucks so bad. How could the bar have been lowered so far down in such a short span of time?

I’m jammin’ on Apna Radio out of Punjon, India.

Easy. Thanks to MTV, in order to be a star, you must also be attractive now. Of course, "attractive" and "talented" don't always go hand-in-hand. Top 40 music is a mass-marketed commodity, produced by the "I don't want it good, I want it Tuesday" mentality. I think MTV just accelerated it.

To quote the Dead Kennedys,

"If the Doors or John Lennon were starting out today the industry wouldn't sign 'em in a million years!"

I feel that there is a difference between music and noise. Everyone has their own taste. Maybe it's akin to developing a favorite ice cream flavor.

Well, I don't care for crap flavored ice cream either. Is that what you're saying? LOL!

Try and FIND a music video on MTV nowadays!

I think they only do music videos at 3am or something now.

They were still showing them early in the morning a few years ago, I caught one of No Doubt's new videos, the one with Gwen Stefani riding around on a JetSki, wearing a PFD and nothing else. That was cool.

Would any of us of heard of Simpson if her boobs were smaller? No. I wish her boobs were smaller.

Anyone heard of Leon Redbone? He has a concert in B'ham in Feb. It'll be my first concert in probably 5 years.

Crap music is nothing new.

35-40 years ago there was plenty of mind-rot on the air........and it sold!!!

Therefore, people like crap.

Last Saturday I saw The Drive By Truckers at Artscape, in Baltimore.

Artscape is an huge annual street festival Fri-Sat-Sun in July.

The Drive By Truckers are from Alabama(?) and employ the Triple Axe Attack.

They rocked the joint for over 1.5 hours barely stopping to catch their breath before ripping into the next song, each of the three guitar players being excellent lead players as well as lead singers.

This all happens in and around the campus of Maryland Institute College of Art.

Dunadan has a kid in school there.

I agree with bit...

To sell music these days, you've got to be attractive.
It also takes a little bit of tallent. Sometimes very little. There are a batch of producers who are following a formula to make stars. If the tallent makes it big, it pays off big. All you need is one decent sounding song. Doesn't matter if it is electronicly manipulated. Teach the tallent some dance moves and put them on stage with a headset microphone. Play a recording of the song and the tallent will dance on stage for the crowd of screaming fans. It is a monster. Part of the dumbing down of America.

That's amazing. Somewhere back a ways he must have taken a few minutes off from his backpacking to make some music!
