“Hey Phantom is this a butkicker? I'm really tempted.”

“Not really a buttkicker. Are you familiar with NY style trails? Saturday's hike is about 13 miles, but the terrain isn't that bad -- well at least compared to the typical NY ridgetop trail. There's a couple steep parts and ledge/slab scrambles, but they're short for the most part and all have either roots, crevices, or ladders to get over.

This hike is really more about the views. The Burroughs Range has some really nice ones, and with it's own views in both directions, Giant Ledge is quite possibly the most scenic campsite I've ever stayed at.”

“I really want to make this trip. This loop is a lot of fun. I love the scrambles on it. It will be the week after I get back from Maine, so we will have to see if I have the funds to pull it off.”

“Prolly the NJ Parkway to the NY Thruway. You could map quest the campground, I think that is also the trailhead.”

“I'm out for this trip :( I have to take a licensing exam for my job that Saturday. Looks like I will be dayhiking the AT in PA instead :(”

PS I'm still working on the Glacier TR. Unlike ever before, I actually wrote journal entries while on the trip, so I have plenty of material to work with. This is also why I'm not in the biggest rush while it's still fresh on my mind. I should probably have something for yas by late next week, but for now, enjoy the pics on the 1000 miles to nowhere thread.

“jackstraw, I looked through my stuff and couldn't find any on the Catskill Mountains, so I bought a guide and a map set from the web site last night. Hopefully, it will arrive in 3 to 5 business days.”

“It's a circuit hike. We will be both starting and ending at Woodland Valley.

Maps can also be purchased on the way up at Campmor if you come thru NJ. They're on State Highway 17 in Paramus; Exit 163 off the Garden State Parkway.

I have maps of the Catskills that I will be bringing with me.”

“I wish I could come. That trail/loop is one of the best! the views are amazing, the scrambles are so much fun. You guys will have a blast for sure.

“Leaving Md. 1PM plan on going up 95 to the GSP to 87. I figure bout 6 hrs give or take.

Definate for campsite: Me, redawgy,Littleforest(My son),You and Greenmonkee, and Swampy wants in too. PS said he might stay at his Dads.”

“I reserved site 39. They use a reservation system. Must be two days in advance and min. two night stay. so we have the site till Sunday. I didn't think we would need two. : )”
