Thinking for yourself... what a radical concept! :) last edited: 7/28/05 3:15:18 PM” 3:14:25 PM 7/28/05 “oh, sorry Violin and ENS for getting you both involved. i'm sure, in secret, you're both America-hating, constitution-defiling extremists!! my apologies, how dare i suggest you might be moderates. (legal disclaimer: in case the internet can't convey my sarcasm, this is a joke).” 3:17:28 PM 7/28/05 “I think I thought for myself once. I think I'll try it again sometime.” 3:19:16 PM 7/28/05 “wanderer, Party of Common Sense? I can use some of that! Does your party offer a little reason as well?” 3:22:24 PM 7/28/05 “I usually just let the Republican Party propaganda machine mail me literature to do my thinking for me. Why? Because it pisses off the liberals. That's really the only reason I do it. Plus I sorta think Ann Coulter is cute, in a weird way.” 3:22:48 PM 7/28/05 “I can’t really speak for anyone else but it’s true - if it weren’t for the mountains and the streams, I’d be out of here in a second.” 3:37:51 PM 7/28/05 “people tend to use a dictionary to find the meaning of a word. - jmitch jmitch - I might not have a higher education like a lawyer, but when I went to college (and high-school), we knew better than to rely on the simplistic definitions in dictionaries. Didn't you? Maybe you weren't fortunate enough to go to a quality school?” 4:15:51 PM 7/28/05 “For you people who question if the liberals are hateful ... http://www.drudgereport.com/flash1.htm” 4:17:15 PM 7/28/05 “ ”4:25:01 PM 7/28/05 “I am still finding it hard to beleive ENS started this thread. He's not one to fuel the fuego fire. But the results are astounding !!! You go boy!” 4:26:35 PM 7/28/05 “sarge, of course you're right! why do we need dictionaries anyways??? yes, i must admit, my poor schooling used dictionaries and tended to trust their definitions. you must have one hell of a time playing crossword puzzles.” 4:52:03 PM 7/28/05 “Bush is a lying sack of pig vomit. The only thing he's a beacon to is a bunch of dilusional twits here in this country. "The rich get richer until the poor get educated." --Sage Francis” 4:53:01 PM 7/28/05 “I don't agree with the Patriot act, I feel it has done little to protect us and in addition gives us a false sense of security. I think it violates many of our rights. I am afraid we are at more risk of attack than we were before. More Americans are dying at the hands of terrorists than were pre-911. The terrorists no longer have to come to American soil to kill us. They can go to Iraq and kill us more easily. Bush has set up an atmosphere of hate in Iraq and it's spreading fast. Still, I don't think we are any safer than we were prior to 911. All the terrorists have to do now is make threats and we shut everything down, spend lots of money and they don't have to do anything more. These tactics are quite effective. They are waging a new war against us. They have figured out how to beat us through attrition and we are completely unaware of it.” 5:51:36 PM 7/28/05 “Wanderer, what have I done for the environement? I recycle, I do not litter, I drive a fuel efficient car, I am moving to within a mile of my job ( I may start walking or get a biking to work), I try to use environementally friendly products as much as I can and I do pick up trash on the trail (not always, but I do sometimes, I definitely can improve in this area). The last time I picked up trash on the trail was on the Appalachian Trail about 3 weeks ago near Duncannon, PA. Wanderer, I don't expect Bush to do anything for me. I don't need him to do anything for me. I am fine, I have a good job and I am doing well. I expect him to improve his environemental policies, preserve natural lands, preserve our national forests, agressively push legislation to further environemental friendly policies and get away from politics that are friendly to the oil industry. Further, I think he needs to step up to the plate and do something about gas prices and don't say he can't. Exxon was the most profitable company in the world last year and all of the oil companies are experiencing record profits while we suffer and it will have implications on our economy. Also, I don't think our economy is as robust as the administration likes to say it is. I would classify it more as mediocre. There are several bubbles that could burst at anytime, the big one being the housing industry and there is also talk of deflation. Another problem I have with Bush is that he is shoving his ideologically rightest views down the throats of Americans. The judges he is trying to put in the supreme court are not mainstream, they are hardcore conservatives and he refuses to discuss his appointees with the democrats. This is no way to lead and no way to govern. The way the current majority party operates seems less and less democratic every day. - Sarge, I don't wager, I'll just wait and see if I am right.” 6:03:17 PM 7/28/05 “lol jmitch btw I am not a democrat and I am not a republican. I am disatisfied with both parties. Additionally, jmitch is right, there are many ways where I consider myself conservative and many ways I consider myself liberal. I do not approve of Bush and I do not support his policies, this does not make me a crazy left wing marxist. wanderer, by the way, you have no clue what I do politically as far as campaigning goes. In your posts you come off quite pointed and clueless.” 6:10:10 PM 7/28/05 “I feel it has done little to protect us and in addition gives us a false sense of security. I hear this a lot... so if so many people think it's a "false" sense of security, then do they really believe it's security in the first place? If not, as you say, it can't be false because they already feel insecure with it. If you can follow that, I applaud you. :^D All the terrorists have to do now is make threats and we shut everything down, spend lots of money and they don't have to do anything more. These tactics are quite effective. Read what you just said. I didn't see anyone getting killed in the scenario you just gave, which would suggest we've out-strategized the terrorists.” 6:10:53 PM 7/28/05 “no one gets killed in the scenario I provided buck, you are correct. I am not suggesting the terrorists have abandoned trying to kill Americans. I am sure they still intend to kill us and attack us. I am just saying that this is a new tactic. They threaten us eroniously and we respond and deplete our resources. Over time this could destroy us and I believe the terrorists are using this tactic now.” 6:14:59 PM 7/28/05 “Exxon was the most profitable company in the world last year and all of the oil companies are experiencing record profits while we suffer and it will have implications on our economy. 1. Exxon was not the most profitable company in the world, that's hyperbole. Very profitable, but not the most in the entire world. Hi. 2. Exxon was very profitable and is owned by stockholders. Buy their stock and you could see your stock soar. You could make MUCH more money investing in Exxon than the increase you pay in gas at the pump, meaning higher gas prices are to your personal advantage. It's called smart-capitalism. Also, I don't think our economy is as robust as the administration likes to say it is. I would classify it more as mediocre. That's fine if you think the economy is mediocre, the stats say otherwise. The economy is hummin'. It's great. Of course you can find +/- at any given time during any economy, and you don't like Bush so you're not gonna give the economy credit. That's just natural. Biased, but natural. Most of us are that way. The economy is doing very good and projected to get even better. Another problem I have with Bush is that he is shoving his ideologically rightest views down the throats of Americans. Bush is not shoving ideology down the views of Americans. He's doing what we expected of him when WE voted him in power. Just because your guy lost doesn't mean Bush is shoving ideology. If Kerry won he'd be shoving HIS ideology down our throat because the majority of voting Americans voted that way. You have to step back beyond your own personal views and see that it is truly America at work as intended. He was voted in because more of us like his views than the opponent's. The judges he is trying to put in the supreme court are not mainstream, they are hardcore conservatives and he refuses to discuss his appointees with the democrats. Uhhh... Bush did to discuss appointees with the Dems, out of courtesy, but Bush has every right as 1/3 of the legitimate power in this country to "appoint" who he wants. Then Congress must approve the appointee. If you are upset that there's a majority Republican Congress and a Republican President, then be upset at the American people, not the politicians that Americans voted in. We voted for the Congress and President, as a nation, to use their judgment and right now as a nation the majority voted in conservatives. Which means, duh, conservatives get to choose and make policy. The Dems are NOT a majority and their voice must be heard but they don't have the final say, like it or not. Times will likely change, they always do, and the Repubs will whine like you. It's the best system in the world. last edited: 7/28/05 6:28:28 PM” 6:26:17 PM 7/28/05 “Does anyone else ever secretly wonder what Snow Nymph's political views are since she NEVER posts in these kinds of threads? ha ha!” 6:30:34 PM 7/28/05 “Dang jmitch, it's a damn shame you didn't go to school with Sarge. It wudda larned ya gooder. Ya mita made sumthin of yerself, stedda diggin diches in the pig farm!” 6:30:39 PM 7/28/05 “i like peanut butter” 6:32:51 PM 7/28/05 “I got some dark chacolate peanut butter tonight. Very rich and low sugar too. The possibilities are limitless!” 6:38:48 PM 7/28/05 “nigal, shouldnt you be on your way to nordhouse? i cant leave until tomorrow morning. car trouble” 6:41:32 PM 7/28/05 “I'm working tonight and then the wife and I are on the road by 10ish and get there about 5pm. Actually I should be packing right now.” 6:45:14 PM 7/28/05 “jmitch - Your definitions in no way show where the two extremes stand on specific issues, and it does not explain their stances on any issue. It's about as simplistic as it comes. Do you not see that? Seriously, do you really think those are good definitions? That's sad if so. PS - I'm returning both your books tomorrow. last edited: 7/28/05 7:05:38 PM” 7:05:07 PM 7/28/05 “sarge, again, you're right, you said it yourself..."extremes". being a liberal or conservative is not being extreme; conversely, using an "extreme" example and applying it to a group incorrectly defines that group as it is not a true representation. you appear to define a liberal in an extreme way. if i were to define conservatives as bigoted, racist, intolerant by taking one extreme example... would you fit that definition? would that be fair and accurate? of course not. when people conjure their own definitions to fit their political bias, that is unfortunate and misleading. you condescend my intelligence and education. oddly, when in court and the judge is trying to determine legislative intent when reviewing a statute and a word may have an unclear or double meaning, do you want to guess what the judge uses? that's right, a DICTIONARY! Apparently dictionaries aren't too simplistic for our court system. as for returning my books, you have shown how childish and peevish you are. i fail to understand why you'd think that would bother me, because you are surely not the first to do so! last edited: 7/29/05 7:58:20 AM” 7:53:48 AM 7/29/05 jmitch “I'm buying two more of your books to offset the returns. lol!” 7:57:57 AM 7/29/05 “BB- your money would be better spent by buying a dictionary! last edited: 7/29/05 8:00:18 AM” 7:59:51 AM 7/29/05 “I have one Jmitch, never use it though, obviously. :)” 8:01:07 AM 7/29/05 “Dictionary? I don't know the meaning of the word.” 8:02:59 AM 7/29/05 “lumberzac, whatever you do, don't use a dictionary to look it up.” 8:04:46 AM 7/29/05 “again, you're right, you said it yourself..."extremes". being a liberal or conservative is not being extreme; conversely, using an "extreme" example and applying it to a group incorrectly defines that group as it is not a true representation. You don't seem to be grasping the concept of generalization. Most people have the ability to read words in their context. you appear to define a liberal in an extreme way. if i were to define conservatives as bigoted, racist, intolerant by taking one extreme example... would you fit that definition? would that be fair and accurate? of course not. Please show me where I did that. That's my entire point. You seem to think I'm pigeonholing liberals into an extreme camp. I didn't do that. I use it generally like is often done in the English language. It's a common thing. Only your preconceptions of what YOU think I think a liberal is has made you think I'm stereotyping all liberals into an extreme camp. when people conjure their own definitions to fit their political bias, that is unfortunate and misleading. Again, I'm not defining. You thought I was, which is where your misconceptions of what was being said originated. It's your bias that is at fault here. you condescend my intelligence and education. oddly, when in court and the judge is trying to determine legislative intent when reviewing a statute and a word may have an unclear or double meaning, do you want to guess what the judge uses? that's right, a DICTIONARY! Dictionaries are fine for general definitions, but to get a true defintion, one must look to the broader picture. In fact, that seems to be your point, yet you insist on using a general definition. Think about it jmitch. You want me not to use a narrow definition for the word, yet you want to use the dictionary to define it! LOL! You're making me laugh now with your logic. as for returning my books, you have shown how childish and peevish you are. i fail to understand why you'd think that would bother me, because you are surely not the first to do so As for being humorless, you are not the first lawyer to do so. Lighten up. It was a joke. Wanna hear a lawyer joke?” 8:05:34 AM 7/29/05 “This is why I prefer slang, to proper english.” 8:09:33 AM 7/29/05 jmitch “A man went to a brain store to get some brain to complete a study. He sees a sign remarking on the quality of professional brain offerred at this particular brain store. He begins to question the butcher about the cost of these brains. "How much does it cost for engineer brain?" "Three dollars an ounce." "How much does it cost for programmer brain?" "Four dollars an ounce." "How much for lawyer brain?" "$1,000 an ounce." "Why is lawyer brain so much more?" "Do you know how many lawyers we had to kill to get one ounce of brain?"” 8:10:29 AM 7/29/05 “OK, so nearly 24 hours after the thread started; has this thread done any good? Anyone feel more informed or less bitter? Yeah, that's what I thought. Why does it seem like we all have to use TT as our whipping post and express nothing but negativity at every turn? (I include myself in this too) Nothing good ever comes from it.” 8:17:27 AM 7/29/05 “i'm not a lawyer, just a mere attorney. i wonder if there's a difference, i better look it up in the dictionary.” 8:19:55 AM 7/29/05 “A law degree is not a true education, and should not be considered equivalent to a Master's and certainly not a Ph.D.” 8:22:34 AM 7/29/05 “nigal, you're right. i went to the ANF two weekends ago. i saw some cool cliffs, recessed caves, and deep crevasses that actually blow cold air out in the summer, enough to fog up my glasses! i saw some awesome old-growth hemlock at the tionesta natural area. the trees were massive. i hope to hike some of the NCT again. want to come along? near hearts content is more old growth and the trails tunnel through deep hemlock. i also did the trail in hickory creek wilderness, nice and easy. best to do in the fall. i also like morrison trail, huge house sized, moss covered boulders litter a stream bed with cascades.” 8:26:22 AM 7/29/05 “Last week, I went to Hooters (TM). I saw the following: ![]() ![]() ”9:27:31 AM 7/29/05 “Damn it BB, how come you didn't invite me?” 9:31:48 AM 7/29/05 “Trip report ?” 9:32:51 AM 7/29/05 “I ate beer and drank wings.” 9:33:35 AM 7/29/05 “I thought Greenspan and the FED were the ones who lowered interest rates.” -lumberzac But then why does Bush take credit for it? He has been seen several times taking credit for lower interest rates and how it has lead to more home ownership.” 12:06:53 AM 7/30/05 “But then why does Bush take credit for it? He has been seen several times taking credit for lower interest rates and how it has lead to more home ownership. - USA When?” 11:09:36 AM 7/30/05 “Actually, we can thank Paul Volcker (but I digress). uh... Smooth or Extra Crunchy? (...and WTF happened to REGULAR 'Crunchy,' anyway?)” 12:26:12 PM 7/30/05 “Sarge, wake up. http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2004/03/20040304-3.html http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2003/01/20030107.html "Interest rates are the lowest in 37 years, and low interest rates have allowed Americans to refinance their homes, adding more than $100 billion to their pocketbooks and to the economy. The homeownership rate—a central part of the American dream—is 68 percent, close to the highest ever."” 4:35:53 PM 7/30/05 “Please show me where "Bush takes credit for it." The way I read it, he gave credit to the Senate. Thanks.” 4:37:47 PM 7/30/05 “"...Interest rates are low. And that helps people, for example, who are trying to buy a home or refinance a home. Inflation is low. Oil and gas prices are coming down, which helps the consumer; it puts more money in your pocket." - Bush http://www.cnn.com/2003/ALLPOLITICS/04/24/bush.transcript/index.html” 4:42:45 PM 7/30/05 “That's very interesting USA, but where does "Bush take credit for it."? If I say to you "interest rates are low", does that mean I'm taking credit for it? If you think so, maybe you should consider some refresher classes in common sense at your local community college.” 4:45:45 PM 7/30/05 “Sarge, Bush has repeatedly touted the rise of home ownership as one of the accomplishments of his administration. Home ownership has risen because of interest rates, not his tax cuts. last edited: 7/30/05 4:48:50 PM” 4:47:30 PM 7/30/05
