BlackWidow: We board our dogs in a kennel, but were very selective. I say we board or dogs but in all honestly it's only Elvis (the Rottie) and we have only done it once during a family vacation where we could not bring him. The chihuahua (Luna) is like a cat and we never have a problem finding a place for her to stay.

Anyway, check out the place we sent Elvis. It was like a dog dream-place. We signed him up for a lot of extras. The people there said they had a blast with him. He didn't seem to care.

I am not saying you should do the same, I just thought you might think this place was funny.

I'm getting excited for this trip! How cold do you think it will be? Guess I'll bring colder-weather gear...or maybe buy some new!

I'm going to use a winter bag but I'll sleep under the stars, or tarp it if it looks like rain. I only sleep in tents when Mike goes, he dislikes sleeping under the stars, I hate tents LOL. I usually dont bring a sleeping pad either but if its going to be cold I might bring the thermalight thingy or jsut one of those silver space blankets so I dont loose heat.
I'm going to see how light I can go. Not going to bring a stove or water filter. I'll use my iodine and eat cold foods :)

Right now temps are averaging around 64 during the day and 45 at night.

Dub, this is going to be just like the Deam trip. No rain forecasted as of now, and that should stick.

SC: You should just share some gear someone else is carrying. When I go hiking with friends I break the gear into personal gear and communal gear. We save a lot of weight as a result. Anyway, my point is... if you want some hot water for coffee or something I am sure any of us (myself especially) would be happy to pack a little extra fuel.

Well, I have a reunion I have to attend on Saturday, so I figured I would miss this one.

But, I am considering coming up Friday night and then doubling back to Nashville for the gig on Saturday.

Probably be next week before I figure out if that is doable.

I am sorry that I am not going to be able to go with you all but we have 60+ pets in our house and we need a pet sitter that can take care of all our critters not just the dogs.

Ya I stopped smoking my pipe and my cigars but I still drink beer and chew tobacco and I still sneek in some scotch sometimes but I am going to be doing my backpacking in the winter when Sprit does not want to go so be cool people and we will hook up soon.

Congrats the Sox won!!!!!!!!

Ya baby!!!!!!!!!

Now can the fuc#en Blackhawks do something???????Fo the love of God!!!!!!!

There are others in your area (Crash Bang) that will be coming down Friday night after work. He may be able to give you a ride.

You better get used to not sleeping my friend. You got 9 months! Hehehehehehehehe!

The van can carry 7 passengers if we use the middle seats. I would say 5 passengers would be more comfortable for all. I am not counting the driver, obviously. The van would hold 8 including the driver.

Getting the gear in will be a trick, but I am sure we can do it.

i will be leaving the kokomo area around 4pm if anyone wants to ride with me.

i just got out the map and guidebook and did some figuring.

the long route (wet prong buffalo-blair spring branch-collie ridge-mccoy hollow) is 15.4 miles

the medium route (western half only of wet prong buffalo-mc coy hollow) is 9.4 miles

the short route (first creek trail) is 5.6 miles

id say that works out perfectly as far as giving a variety of options

hey, just a suggestion, if its one of those things were its rain to start the day and then clears up after a couple of hours, theres always a cave tour, then one of the shorter routes once the skies clear.

as long as at least one ferry route is open, that is cool. first creek trailhead is clear on the opposite side of the park from the visitor center, and both routes there are roughly equally long (im thinking about 15 minutes or so)
