you actually will get to spend more time with her now that she is pregnant. Seems those hormones kick it up a notch or two.

i rarely go for long-distance hikes. 4-6 miles is the norm. nothing wrong with a challenge every once in awhile.

I don't care how far I hike. I just like a good strenuous and long day of hiking and everything associated with it. However far that takes me is good enough.

I talked with a girl this evening that will be coming in on Saturday. She will be happy that Nicole is hiking the shorter route as well.

I wouldn't exactly call 15 1/2 miles a death march. It's a full day of hiking. It's definately not going to kill anyone. I imagine we'll all be sleeping real well Saturday night but there'll be no deaths involved. (Break out the Ax and you'll get pepper sprayed C!B!) ;)

15.5 at MCNP won't be too tough. If I could find anyway to blow off the reunion, I would be there. Best I will be able to do, (and probably won't be able to logistically pull it off) is to show up on Friday.

Damn, the nerve of those people I knew 25 years ago to have something like this on a hike weekend. ;-)

No Nicole, this is a total newbie. She called my cell about a week ago because she couldn't figure out how to sign up for the trip. She has hiked numerous times, but never tried a overnight trip.

15 or 16 miles will be nice. Would y'all say that 23 miles on a hilly section of the Quehanna trail in Penn is a deathmartch?
Wounded Knee

I wouldn't take a newbie 15.5 anywhere. The first thing you have to factor in is when (or if) the blisters will start.

Besides, most newbies I have seen (even when in great shape) find life a lot different with a pack on their back.

Weather looks good!

Mid 70's (wish it was a little cooler), partly cloudy during the day on Saturday with a 20% chance of water falling from the sky.

Mid 50's at night.

Shorts and t-shirts in November! Can't beat that!

Agreed :)

If the newbie and I do the 10 mile one there will be plenty of time to stop and take breaks if she needs it (or if pitts needs it)

I could probebly do the 15 miler but I dont feel like it :P Last time I did mammoth it WAS a death march. We did close to 40 miles in a weekend. It was fun though...its not really tough hiking at all.

I am just like Mike, I am hot no matter the outside temp.

I will have my 45 bag and very limited clothing. Convertable pants and a t-shirt will be the clothes I wear.

I packed up everything last night and the total weight of the pack comes to 15 pounds.

I need to do that today...Mike has talked me into taking hte bivy, though I would rather just take a tarp. I think he has some kind of phobia of having no shelter?? Anyway he used the "Just humor me for once" line to get me to agree. (rolls eyes) I will bring it but I hate confining spaces so I probebly wont use it.

Almost forgot, I said on the other thread that I would have some way of directing people that arrive late on Friday to the sites we will be at.

I constructed a sign yesterday that should help. You should look for a neon yellow poster with reflective red tape on it. It reads as follows...

TT

then underneath the TT will be an arrow point you where to go. I will also have the site numbers we are at in marker on the poster. I will probably reserve 3 sites.

If you want to try my cell phone (cannot gaurantee I will have a signal) that is cool too.

Only a few days away! I'd better start packing. Sherbear has drill this weekend so she can't go, and my other friend just started a new job this week so he'll let me know in a day or two if he's going. I'll let you know as soon as I know, but expect me there late Friday.
