They have a great campground! You could go on a cave tour too!” 3:14:18 PM 10/28/05 “you actually will get to spend more time with her now that she is pregnant. Seems those hormones kick it up a notch or two.” 3:17:48 PM 10/28/05 “i was thinking that too wk, she loves caves...i haven't been to mammoth since i was a kid...i did some spelunking there when i was in scouts” 3:21:43 PM 10/28/05 “(hiding axe behind back) Yeah! Come on down and visit!” 3:21:44 PM 10/28/05 “pitts, since your s-rges troll you have to be using a knife..like in the movie The Hunted” 3:49:46 PM 10/28/05 “Naw, he will just use those new trekking poles like spears!” 4:11:56 PM 10/28/05 “"lured you off with car camping" Suuuuuuure.” 4:24:04 PM 10/28/05 Hey Black Widow “Bosco has to stay home this time, almost lost him on a trip down south . I might bring him for a day hike down to Deam this winter or next spring” 2:40:48 PM 10/31/05 Weather Forecast “Friday...Partly cloudy. Lows in the lower 50s. Highs in the mid 70s. Saturday...Mostly cloudy. Highs in the lower 70s. Saturday Night...Mostly cloudy with a 30 percent chance of showers. Lows around 50. Sunday...Mostly cloudy with a 40 percent chance of showers. Highs around 70. Spirt Coyote: Be sure to bring that tarp for Saturday night if you are going to sleep under the stars. :) These things always change drastically the day before. last edited: 10/31/05 3:09:58 PM” 3:09:46 PM 10/31/05 “holy crap...i really hope i can make it now...just checked the weahter for frday, high 76 low 55...that's not too cold even for me!!” 3:20:44 PM 10/31/05 “getting pumped about this trip. looking forward to churning out 15 1/2 miles over relatively easy terrain” 3:23:21 PM 10/31/05 “Did you run the mileage on the trail? I never did.” 3:38:53 PM 10/31/05 “you death marchers crack me up...i backpack for vacation not a challenge...if i want a challenge i'll try to actually leave work at 5:00 LOL” 3:43:06 PM 10/31/05 “I think I'll stick with the 10 mile route ;)” 6:57:38 PM 10/31/05 “i rarely go for long-distance hikes. 4-6 miles is the norm. nothing wrong with a challenge every once in awhile.” 7:18:14 PM 10/31/05 “I don't care how far I hike. I just like a good strenuous and long day of hiking and everything associated with it. However far that takes me is good enough.” 8:09:46 PM 10/31/05 “I talked with a girl this evening that will be coming in on Saturday. She will be happy that Nicole is hiking the shorter route as well.” 9:28:42 PM 10/31/05 “WK luara?” 9:46:36 PM 10/31/05 “Crash Bang is going to kill me...” 10:55:17 PM 10/31/05 “You are right. It's his rutine to kill other hikers inteh back country. Ask him to show you his ax.... :)” 11:38:37 PM 10/31/05 “i doubt if im going to kill you, pitts. im a year removed from last years big hike, plus about 40 pounds heavier” 5:14:00 AM 11/01/05 “i rarely go for long-distance hikes Crash Bang i seem to remember someone doing a little thing called the AT” 7:52:54 AM 11/01/05 “I wouldn't exactly call 15 1/2 miles a death march. It's a full day of hiking. It's definately not going to kill anyone. I imagine we'll all be sleeping real well Saturday night but there'll be no deaths involved. (Break out the Ax and you'll get pepper sprayed C!B!) ;)” 8:35:00 AM 11/01/05 “15.5 at MCNP won't be too tough. If I could find anyway to blow off the reunion, I would be there. Best I will be able to do, (and probably won't be able to logistically pull it off) is to show up on Friday. Damn, the nerve of those people I knew 25 years ago to have something like this on a hike weekend. ;-)” 8:51:23 AM 11/01/05 “No Nicole, this is a total newbie. She called my cell about a week ago because she couldn't figure out how to sign up for the trip. She has hiked numerous times, but never tried a overnight trip. 15 or 16 miles will be nice. Would y'all say that 23 miles on a hilly section of the Quehanna trail in Penn is a deathmartch?” 9:04:08 AM 11/01/05 “I wouldn't take a newbie 15.5 anywhere. The first thing you have to factor in is when (or if) the blisters will start. Besides, most newbies I have seen (even when in great shape) find life a lot different with a pack on their back.” 9:08:48 AM 11/01/05 “Weather looks good! Mid 70's (wish it was a little cooler), partly cloudy during the day on Saturday with a 20% chance of water falling from the sky. Mid 50's at night. Shorts and t-shirts in November! Can't beat that!” 9:13:27 AM 11/01/05 “She said that she will be hiking the shorter trail.” 9:14:22 AM 11/01/05 “Agreed :) If the newbie and I do the 10 mile one there will be plenty of time to stop and take breaks if she needs it (or if pitts needs it) I could probebly do the 15 miler but I dont feel like it :P Last time I did mammoth it WAS a death march. We did close to 40 miles in a weekend. It was fun though...its not really tough hiking at all.” 9:16:29 AM 11/01/05 “Mid 70's (wish it was a little cooler)," Wounded Knee Not me! I wish it were a bit warmer.” 9:18:47 AM 11/01/05 “You and your hot weather! We need to give this gal a trail name.” 9:21:59 AM 11/01/05 “I never wear shorts, even on a solo trek. My legs are ugly and I don't want to scare the wildlife.” 9:22:11 AM 11/01/05 “I like hiking topless in hot weather...ask the popele in florida, they know :)” 9:23:25 AM 11/01/05 “Yep, I'm torn between the twenty and forty five degree bags. The forty five is tight. Everytime I use it I swear I never will again. I don't know why I'm even thinking about it!” 9:23:43 AM 11/01/05 “Im just gonna take my woman's down 15 degree bag...if I don't I'll freeze. Its warm enough where I wont have to take a ground pad...COOL! :)” 9:25:36 AM 11/01/05 “The forty five is tight. Everytime I use it I swear I never will again. i thought tight was a good thing??...did that change...man these kids and their slang, i can't keep up with it...is it off the hook, or off the chain, i'm so confused LOL” 9:27:30 AM 11/01/05 “I am just like Mike, I am hot no matter the outside temp. I will have my 45 bag and very limited clothing. Convertable pants and a t-shirt will be the clothes I wear. I packed up everything last night and the total weight of the pack comes to 15 pounds.” 9:30:11 AM 11/01/05 “Cool :) I need to do that today...Mike has talked me into taking hte bivy, though I would rather just take a tarp. I think he has some kind of phobia of having no shelter?? Anyway he used the "Just humor me for once" line to get me to agree. (rolls eyes) I will bring it but I hate confining spaces so I probebly wont use it.” 9:32:58 AM 11/01/05 “I hope he doesn't read this. Hey, I am bringing a chair for you for Friday night Nicole. Actually I will just bring the four I have so no one has to sit on the ground.” 9:36:56 AM 11/01/05 “Well I was going to bring my litte square to sit on :) but If ya want ya can bring it. thats one thing Im getting mike for christmas this year...a crazy creek chair...Im tired of hearing him #&%!$ and moan about sitting on a pice of foam on the ground LOL!” 9:38:47 AM 11/01/05 “I have one you can have! I don't use it anymore. The chairs are just for Friday night. Bring your square for Saturday.” 9:41:44 AM 11/01/05 “Almost forgot, I said on the other thread that I would have some way of directing people that arrive late on Friday to the sites we will be at. I constructed a sign yesterday that should help. You should look for a neon yellow poster with reflective red tape on it. It reads as follows... TT then underneath the TT will be an arrow point you where to go. I will also have the site numbers we are at in marker on the poster. I will probably reserve 3 sites. If you want to try my cell phone (cannot gaurantee I will have a signal) that is cool too. (219) 688-0799” 10:57:04 AM 11/01/05 “Hi guys! I'm the newbie you've been talking about. Looking forward to meeting you this weekend.” 1:09:21 PM 11/01/05 “Hello Stomper :) Are you related to StoveStomper? ;) Looking fowraed to meeting you. I'm a very slow hiker so feel free to lag with me or go ahead if i'm too slow.” 1:32:11 PM 11/01/05 “Stomper huh? See you Saturday!” 1:50:50 PM 11/01/05 “who is the gobbler? nichole? rusty trombone?” 3:45:40 PM 11/01/05 “This is the second trip where I’ll be within a big TT hike. The wife and are going to RRG for the weekend. Great weather!” 3:47:16 PM 11/01/05 “Nicole. Rusty is wonderfool” 3:48:21 PM 11/01/05 “Only a few days away! I'd better start packing. Sherbear has drill this weekend so she can't go, and my other friend just started a new job this week so he'll let me know in a day or two if he's going. I'll let you know as soon as I know, but expect me there late Friday.” 5:22:59 PM 11/01/05 “No relation to Stovestomper.” 5:27:30 PM 11/01/05 Jump to Page << prev
