“I will be bringing a 30 degree bag and some extra clothes just in case. Spare dry clothes are always a must in any regard because you can go hypothermic as high as 50 degrees outside. If I get cold I just put these on. I'll be sleeping in my bivy bag which adds about 10 degrees. I expect to be fairly toasty.

Please, please don't beg for heat! I have had three death march hikes this summer, one in 98 degree heat... a heat wave that lasted for just the duration of my hike of course.”

“If someone is not wanting to go because they don't have a warm sleeping bag just let me know. I have several (an extra 30 and a zero) that I can loan out... just no dreams like that one on that "I peed my pants" thread. I think you would roast in the zero. The 30 is a a Mountansmith Wisp which I love, but I am going to use my new Marmot Hydrogen on this trip. The Wisp is brand new never used (don't ask) but the material is fairly dainty so I would ask if someone borrows it that they be careful.

I also have a down 45 degree bag but I think that's cutting it a tad close to the limit. Someone that sleeps warm might be OK in it with a liner or some clothes.

“OK, I am officially pumped about this trip. I packed my backpack tonight to make sure I had the weight right... which is dumb because it always weights the same thing. So I am all set to go but the hike is over a month away and I have a trip next week for which I will have to reconfigure my gear.

It might have to do with the fact that I was in Lexington, KY today. Who knows!

My holdup is that 10/15-10/19 I'll be in Destin, FL with the fam. 10/20-10/23 I'll be in the Smokies for the football hiking trip. The next wknd will be HC and then the next is this trip. Also, 10/8 I'm taking a local bp trip. That'd be 5 weekends in a row. Finally, my daughters b'day party will be sometime in Nov. I guess I'm thru complaining. I'm watching it, but will just have to see. It's 6 hrs for me, so not too bad. Heck, SS and I could even meet in B'ham to shuttle. I'm probably a 20% maybe at this point. Would love to go.

PS, I emailed Nigal about a possible Jan version. WK and I mentioned a Jan Savage Gulf, so maybe that could become a Mammoth. Still too early for me.”

“I want to put something together. Here's my hangup. In March a local guy and I are trying to setup a Bryce Canyon trip. This would effect my other winter trips. He now says he might be tied up due to Katrina construction. So I'm sort of in limbo. I'd like to setup Jan at Savage maybe, Feb at HPM's trip and sometime in March host a Sipsey trip if Bryce falls thru. We'll (my wife and I) probably be preggers by then too. I don't think I'll be able to swing 3 trips in 3 months either. The sr partner here announced last week that he'll be basically gone in Feb. That has a huge impact on me too.

Sorry to unload all that crap on the thread, but was trying to explain why I've been silent on trips that I normally have on the board now.

Here's how I see it:
If Bryce happens:
Savage/Mammoth in Jan
Bryce in March

If Bryce doesn't happen:
Appalachicola in Feb
Sipsey in March
