best easy-up (instant up) tent?View MessagesViewing posts 1 to 26 of 26 messages posted.
instant-up tents? “I'm looking for any suggestions on a 3+ person tent that is for us lazy folks. I saw a couple available on the web such as the Columbia Bachelor & also Pinnicle had one. I want one that the windows can be zipped up in, and I don't think the bachelor one has that feature. Weisght isn't a factor, as I usually Jeep to where where I'm planning on camping, but I hate setting up tents in the dark (which always seems to be the case) and I really like the instant-popup features. Are those tents typically garbage? As I mentioned, size and weight isn't a real issue as I do vehicle camping.” 2:25:58 PM 7/28/05 “I don't have any experience with them. A quick look online at Campmor and REI revealed only one of that type, and it looked pretty much like crap. What are you using now, that takes too long to set up?” 2:42:31 PM 7/28/05 Something like this? 2:49:01 PM 7/28/05 “I have found the quickest and easiest shelter to erect during a horrific storm is to roll underneath my wife.” 2:53:02 PM 7/28/05 ““I have found the quickest and easiest shelter to erect during a horrific storm is to roll underneath my wife.” Buck 3:53:02 PM 7/28/05 ignore this user Is a swimsuit model a suitable substitute?” 2:57:50 PM 7/28/05 “No, they're usually too skinny.* *Not intended to suggest that Buck's wife is overweight.” 3:02:18 PM 7/28/05 “Oh, how about 2 or 3 swimsuit models? 8D” 3:03:30 PM 7/28/05 “only if you stack them right or they are really stacked” 3:12:00 PM 7/28/05 “This is "theBACKPACKER.com" not "theCARCAMPER.com" most of the information you will find here deals minimalist backpacking. People who post here are concerned about ounces because they carry their equipment into the wilderness. If you can not assemble your tent in the dark, you've got way to much tent to be humping into the wilderness. With that said, I've no idea where to direct you for information on a lazy person tent. I'm kinda thinking that a tent of that sort would not be sturdy. I'm also kinda thinking that it would be better to spend a little more time to put up a good tent and not have to worry about it failing and dealing with the scraps rather than quickly popping a tent upon the ground and dealing with what the weather brings. Backslacker posted a link to a tent which says you can put the tent up in 30 seconds. Rain fly and vestibule would take another 45 - 60 seconds each. My siera designs tent can be assembled during a dark, wind driven rainy night in less than 4 minutes. It weighs less than 5 pounds. It is only a 2 person model which one person (me) assembles and uses. note: Do you look above your dark campsite for snags prior to pitching your tent?” 3:12:18 PM 7/28/05 “HOI, you have to chink that pile with underwear models.” 3:13:35 PM 7/28/05 “Not intended to suggest that Buck's wife is overweight Well, beings that she's pregnant, she has gained a few pounds. But hey, more shelter for me. Do I feel bad about using a pregnant woman as a shelter? You betcha. But it works nonetheless.” 3:16:30 PM 7/28/05 “or Reese Witherspoon!” 3:20:57 PM 7/28/05 “Buck, I didn't see a shotgun at the wedding, she must have not been showing enough for that ;)” 3:21:45 PM 7/28/05 “You know what we do to car campers around here… don’t you PUNK?!!” 3:41:53 PM 7/28/05 “Mapleleaf really liked this tent. Maybe it will work for you. ![]() Hope this helps!” 3:45:01 PM 7/28/05 “Tease them mercilessly? I'm going to be camping in my pop-up camper tonight, lol...” 3:48:07 PM 7/28/05 REI Hobbitat “This has to be the best base camp tent available. Simple to set up sleeps up to six, and light enough you might just want to walk a few miles from your jeep. Check it out.” 3:59:40 PM 7/28/05 “Momma told me if I only have a filthy comment to make then its best to make no comment at all.” 4:02:42 PM 7/28/05 4:03:21 PM 7/28/05 “but I was never much for listening to Momma... I don't know? Are you seventeen? lol!!!!” 4:03:37 PM 7/28/05 “I spose one could always carry a beach umbrella and a roll of no-see-um netting. That's about as easy up as you can get. Beach umbrella could double as a trekking pole.” 6:05:15 PM 7/28/05 “Here's a story: I don't remember what kind of tent this guy had, but he had it totally erected except for being staked down. We were in an open basin with a stiff wind, and next thing I knew it was bounding away from him like a giant beach ball.” 6:13:42 PM 7/28/05 “I have had tarps that threatened to become sails in the wind. It does not take a lot - maybe 10-15 MPH - to make a shambles of things.” 6:26:42 PM 7/28/05 “"most of the information you will find here deals minimalist backpacking. People who post here are concerned about ounces because they carry their equipment into the wilderness" Who says? Congrats on the kid Buck! When is she due?” 6:33:18 PM 7/28/05 “Thanks for the links... that looks like what I wanted.... you can keep the spongebob tent though. For the record - I done my share of backpacking and still occasionally do, but 6 years in the militay kind of took the fun out of it, as well as full use of my knee. I'm sure I've set up more tents in my life than any goat.... and I can do it blindfolded. I was just looking for info and I had thought this was a good site. Sorry if I stepped on any toes here.” 2:07:57 PM 7/29/05 “Don't let the nasties drive you away, skydealer. Newbies (to this site) are always due some harrassing. Kind of like the Army. bitpusher's got the right idea. I've got a pop-up too, and you can't beat it for car camping! Forget the tent.” 2:25:54 PM 7/29/05
