“Saw the preview for the movie and it looks kick arse. Looks right up my ally as far as reading. I did a little research and there was a lot of debate on the correct order the books needed to be read. Chronological order... or published order. Any Narnia fans out there?” 1:10:19 PM 8/01/05 “I read them over and over as a kid. Im definatly going to see this movie!!” 1:14:38 PM 8/01/05 “Yeah,I want to see this one too. I took my kids to see "Sky High" this past weekend and I saw the previews, it looks pretty good. I recognized it right away even before the trailer mentioned the name of the movie, I guess I liked the books more than I thought.” 1:24:49 PM 8/01/05 “published order. that's the way they were meant to be read. doing it in chrono order is kinda like with the godfather series when they cut/spliced the different films a few years ago. dumbasses...” 1:38:13 PM 8/01/05 “Published order. Chronological ruins some of the magic for me. Lewis once stated a mild preference for published order but then added that he didn't think it mattered all that much.” 1:40:21 PM 8/01/05 “When I read the Chronicles there was a definite order to them, and it was NOT chronological according to either the Earth or Narnia timelines. Lion Witch & Wardrobe was always first. The book jackets distinctly assigned numbers to the volumes. A Horse and His Boy gets mentioned earlier, during Silver Chair I believe, and Lewis says he'll get around to telling to eventually, and he does. Magician's Nephew comes late, because I think he decided that he really ought to tell the beginning of Narnia before he tells of its end. I quite like the order as published. Definitely enhances the magic to read it that way.” 3:59:31 PM 8/01/05 “some of the best reading ever... I love the whole series...” 4:07:07 PM 8/01/05 “http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4565927036 Woohoo! Now I just gotta finish Borne Supremacy...” 7:13:59 PM 8/01/05 “One of the best movies I've seen in quite a while!” 5:17:57 PM 1/09/06 “Was it entertaining for adults? I don't know if you're speaking from a child's point of view. It did get good reviews, but it didn't say if it would hold the attention of an adult. It looks interesting, like one I may like to see on WA's theater that has a mega huge screen.” 5:53:53 PM 1/09/06 “I'm a child? Attention of adults... hmm, I went with my parents and they both said it was very good. I'm 21, and I enjoyed it... held my attention, didn't check my watch, was saying to myself "don't end yet, I could sit here for another couple hours" must have been good.” 6:28:30 PM 1/09/06 “I went to see it last Saturday, and thought that it was done quite well. I read the books back in 6th grade (a long time ago) and the movie seemed to do them justice, given the limitations of the medium.” 12:28:19 AM 1/10/06 “simer, lipstick hiker, is very, very old indeed (i believe shes around 90) from her pov you are a child” 5:34:11 AM 1/10/06 “My family saw the movie a week or so ago. My wife and I enjoyed it and the kids (5, 4) enjoyed it. 8 thumbs up.” 8:07:46 AM 1/10/06 “i liked it, a lot. My daughter demanded that we add it to our home collection as soon as its available. Best movie i've seen in a while.” 8:10:31 AM 1/10/06 “Dayhiker was it scary for the kids at all? I want to go and maybe take Ab but don't want to have to leave with her in tears (reminiscent of March of the Penguins when the albatross ate the baby penguin).” 8:18:40 AM 1/10/06 “How old is Abby now Sass?” 8:22:39 AM 1/10/06 “She'll be five on the 25th. Time flies.” 8:25:43 AM 1/10/06 “We were pretty apprehensive in the scene where the lion was sacrificed. They made it through fine though. The war/fight scenes are well done. You see the swing of a sword, but not the impact. You do see bodies strewn on the ground. Mine are almost 6 and just turned 4. I think Abby is between them, correct?” 8:25:45 AM 1/10/06 “There are parts I could see a young one getting scared during the movie. There is a lot of fighting and the wolves could scare small children.” 8:27:27 AM 1/10/06 “I think the christian parallels are very interesting. Not as interesting as the Matrix but still…” 8:27:59 AM 1/10/06 “Yep. Maybe if we tell her about those scenes before hand it'll be okay. Thanks!! Or maybe we'll just wait until it's on DVD. I'd like to see it at the theater though. last edited: 1/10/06 8:29:10 AM” 8:28:04 AM 1/10/06 “At that age it's so child-dependent though. The scene that dayhiker is talking about might bring a child to tears, depending on the child. But he's right about them not showing things like actual impact of weapons and the like. A little story about our family's trip to see Narnia: One of the characters shoots another one of the characters with an arrow, at a strategic point in the movie. My daughter, the precious thing, laughed out loud in the theatre. It just struck her funny. I have succeeded.” 8:29:17 AM 1/10/06 “One thing that helped is that most stadium seating theatres have those arm rests that you can move out of the way. All 4 of us were in about a seat and a half at that point. You might wait and talk about the scene a little before it happens. It's a pivotal character and you might not want her upset through the whole movie since she knows what will happen. He stays down for a good 10 minutes of movie time before rising again.” 8:30:32 AM 1/10/06 “Boy, you guys are great parents. And by “you guys” I mean everyone but bit. LOL!” 8:31:59 AM 1/10/06 “i thought this was a very good movie...very well made...not hokey at all” 8:36:31 AM 1/10/06 “lol, yah I'm a great dad. She comes by it honest though, I do the same thing all the time. When "Broken Arrow" came out in the theatre, I went to go see it with my wife, and possibly also with my brother and his wife. So, at one point in the movie, this team of SEALs or Green Berets finds one of the lost nuclear bombs, and it's broken open, and they're all writhing aroudn on the ground from the "pain of being irradiated" or some such nonsense. Well, that doesn't happen. Even if you're receiving a relatively high dose of radiation, you can't feel it. The damage (if any) is being done on a molecular level. Plus, if the nuclear material in the warhead is plutonium (which it usually is) your skin is plenty good protection from the radiation that plutonium emits. Anyway, I laughed out loud in the theatre at that point, because it's so ridiculously stupid to anyone with a decent science education. Well, most anyone.” 8:39:40 AM 1/10/06 “you guys are making me impatient to have a kid...i can't wait for this kind of stuff” 8:43:58 AM 1/10/06 “I think it was this movie where someone got hit late in the movie. It was a serious point and Reece yelled out loud. That got a chuckle from the folks around us. I do the same thing bit. My soph year I roomed with 2 theatre majors. We'd stay up late each night to watch Star Trek, TNG. There was an episode about a planet that could cloak and Picard didn't want to leave because they wouldn't be able to find it again. I commented on how stupid that was. I called Picard stupid, GASP. They said that they never rationalized movies. I said it should at least be believable and that it was easy math to figure that out. They said it couldn't be done. I said that some guy named Newton figured it out about 300 years ago when he invented/discovered this thing called calculus. They weren't amused.” 8:50:42 AM 1/10/06 “Oh yah. I've gone around and around with a friend of mine who enjoyed "The Core". The premise of the movie is 100% impossible. I find it very hard to suspend disbelief and watch movies like that. But she loved it. Oh well.” 8:53:36 AM 1/10/06 “Sometimes I'm surprised at parent's reactions to movies - I'm not criticizing anyone, we don't like to see our kids upset, but if you think about it... Most will take kids without question to the latest Disney movie. I couldn't believe how awful Lion King was - the kids uncle murdered his father, then convinced him it was his fault; other movies, parents somehow leave their kids behind and the movie is about the kid's journey to find the parent - not the parents journey to find the kid. Lies, deception, murder, back stabbing scum bag characters - all considered fine children's entertainment - but let's not watch something real that is just a part of nature. I see the difference in the kids my grand girl goes to school with - I can't stand trash like American Idol that seems to be so popular with them - yet they couldn't go see March of the Penguins, which my grandkids enjoyed. We watch a lot of Animal Planet, TLC and Discovery, though they do like some Disney shows - I hate that channel.” 9:02:36 AM 1/10/06 “Agreed. I loved Mission Impossible 1 until the train tunnel scene where the crashed helicopter magically stops 2mm short of Cruise's precious mug.” 9:03:07 AM 1/10/06 “I'm with you Twigeatter. I don't care for most disney movies. It's hard to fight the princess worship but I limit the disney stuff as much as possible. I don't mind if Abby gets upset about something she sees, per se, but when she's crying so loud we have to leave a theater because we're ruining the experience for others (thus wasting $24.00 in tickets and $15 in concessions), it ticks me off. I'd rather avoid it and watch the movies at home with her where we can hit pause, talk about what's happening, etc.” 9:15:24 AM 1/10/06 “My favorite scene from Broken Arrow was when Travolta was in the passenger seat and the guy in the driver's seat kept talking and he crushes his larynx in with a big maglite and says, "Shush!". I'm a stickler when it comes to action movies and guns. "Hey! How'd that guy get 10 rounds out of a Mossburge 500? It only holds 9 without the plug." I always groan when I hear the hero cock back the hammer on a Glock which has no hammer. Or when the guy with the pump shot gun runs around racking the slide 100 times just for effect. Ok, back on topic. Any cool guns in Narnia?” 9:15:55 AM 1/10/06 “No guns in Narnia, but the witch has this cool wand that turns folks to stone. Agreed Sass, mine are well aware of death and what it means but ruining it for others is something else. We were having a hard time getting the kids to respect the road. Still struggle with it. Our pediatrician suggested we point out road kill and explain what it is and why it's there. That sure helped the looking both ways talks and also was a good way to talk about death.” 9:19:03 AM 1/10/06 ““No guns in Narnia, but the witch has this cool wand that turns folks to stone." Cool wand but ya do get a savings throw against it. With a gun ya have to roll to hit but there's no savings throws. LOL!” 9:22:06 AM 1/10/06 “I remember having nightmares from the animated Narnia movie as a kid. That witch turning people to statues freaked me out!” 9:23:33 AM 1/10/06 “I'm with you there - watching the stuff at home where you can pause and talk is much better. Remember how we all cried at Bambi? :) oh the princess thing, LOL...we went thru the barbie thing, now on to princesses...I don't mind most of it (even suggested the girls dress up as princesses for the sleeping beauty ballet - they loved it and others in the audience loved it) but I hate the clothing with "princess" written on it, or for that matter, "cheering" written across the ass of short shorts for 5 year olds. If Ana gets any, I throw it out as soon as I get my hands on it. A friend of hers gave her a bag of clothes that had - of all things - several halter tops in it. I don't get why that style is even made in their size. Okay back to Narnia - I can't wait to see it, the previews are awesome!” 9:58:51 AM 1/10/06 “I absolutely loved Narnia! I thought the computer animation was some of the best I have ever seen. I read the books as a kid as well, and am usually disappointed in movies I see after reading the book, but, not this one.” 11:13:32 AM 1/10/06 8:43:54 AM 2/07/06 “Haha, "there's a real sense of wonder about what's on the other side"...I think I can tell him what's on the other side of it! A giant dork. LOL!!” 9:15:49 AM 2/07/06 “Did you read the part about the theatre telling him if he came out of the closet, he could come see Brokeback Mountain?” 9:26:07 AM 2/07/06 “Funny!! Ewww, I hope he's wearing clothes under there.” 9:34:02 AM 2/07/06 “I still say some people have WAY too much time on their hands.....” 9:37:04 AM 2/07/06 “"I still say some people have WAY too much time on their hands...." or not enough brains in their head.” 11:01:27 AM 2/07/06
