Coming soon will be noise, traffic and crime.

A Senior Center is going to be build right across the street from me. There goes the grass, the trees , the long views. Arriving will be about a year of construction, a large building, a big parking lot with lights on all night, a giant A/C running 24/7, etc. Then will come the traffic, cars with senior citizens, car security alarm systems going off several times each day. delivery trucks with those horrible, loud back-up signals, holes in the street, noise from vehicles hitting those holes, occassional accidents, emergency vehicles coming to aid some of the unfortunate folks and the list can continue.

I've already seen some of it. When I moved into this Senior Trailer Park, there was a two to three city block long area of grass and trees across from me. Then at the north end of this area they constructed a plant for Nokia Cell Phone repairs. They had so much business that they went to two shifts. Then they had to expand the parking lot. More trees and grass left the area. Loud cars would roar out of their lot in the middle of the night. Their parking lot lights shine in my eyes at night. Finally, after years, the business dropped to the point that Nokia could handle it at other plants. Immediately, another company in the same business moved in the building. I've experienced the noise, the increased traffic and the increased crime.
Now it's going to get worse with this new addition directly across from me. Increased exposure is directly related to crime. I'm not happy.

The land belongs to the city and is administrated by the Airport Authority. The director was recently booted because of shady dealings. They want to show progress, but many deals have never been fully realized. They are trying to put all the land to the greatest beneficial use. This means making money, cash returns. Parks and other projects beneficial to the population do not achieve this purpose. One such project started recently has blocked all easy bicycle access from here to shopping, to the hospital and many medical facilities and to my health club. Additionally, a large addition to the hospital has removed a direct street to the health club. So I now drive just about everywhere instead of using my bicycle as previously done.

"Progress" always has a bigger price tag than the one in the window. Sorry your home is headed southerly.

But on the bright side.....

Hmmmm....good point Ewker.

Yep, now it'll be a short walk across the road to the Nowslimmer casa de amore. You can easily make several back and forth trips a night and maximize the action per evening ratio.

Crime too?
Maybe you could set yourself up as a Don in the Bingo Mafia? I think you would look quite dapper in a zoot suit.

I'll fix them. I'll park in one of their Handicapped Parking spots. I may even get a second vehicle to park there. I'll use their facilities, their toilet paper, hot water, cold water, soap and paper towels.

It's bad enough that I live in a Park filled with senior citizens. Living on a corner of the park I avoid most of them. But many come past each day on their 3-wheeled bicycles. Now we'll have seniors arriving from all over town and the neighboring towns.

It's too much to hope for, but a nice swimming pool for doing laps would soothe my feelings. I could ride my new mobility scooter across the street and spend the day swimming.

Drat. They'll be having outdoor nighttime shuffleboard against teams from other communities and towns. They can have 20-40 games going on at once. In Florida this is a serious sport and they make plenty of noise. Visiting teams will likely overflow the parking lot.

Each afternoon I'll be hearing the clink clank of horseshoes. This is enough to give me gray hair!

And if it is like other places around here, a maintenance staff will be driving in and out late at night to perform cleaning operations.

Nowslimmer,

You go over there with a few plates of your best cookies and make some friends with those seniors.

You would be amazed how much you might learn :)
