This guy is simply amazing.
Andrew Thompson from New Hampshire set a new speed record by completing the Appalachian Trail in 47 days, 13 hours, and 31 minutes.

wonder if he stopped to enjoy the views or took pics or was the entire trip a blur

I don't know about this. Having someone waiting with food, shelter and all the comforts of home each and every time he comes to a road is not my idea of hiking the AT. I do not think he should be compaired to the AT thru hikers. He didn't even wear a backpack just a fanny pack with little if nothing in it. Granted he travelled fast ,some days were fifty miler ones but who cares when it comes down to "all about mileage". I think he missed the point of hiking the AT all together. Oh well just my take on such a magnificent trail and ones appreciation of it.

Oh yes indeed He did cover the distance in record time. I did not say he did not do a good job , I said why travel so fast if you cannot enjoy yourself.

I was packing too many teenagers. LOL Nine between the ages of 14-16. I should have brought tequila. ;-)

I think I would have needed something stronger than tequila to deal with 9 teenagers.

I brought a wooden mallet that said "Attitude Adjuster" on the side. Hung it off the back of my pack and didn't have a problem all week. 8D

I drank some moonshine when I was in high school once. The stuff had to have been pretty close to 190 proof. If you let it sit too long it would evaporate out of your cup.

We made moonshine when I was a kid. The stuff was smooth as silk on the tongue but when it hit the back of your throat it left you gasping for air as your food pipe slammed shut in rebellion. We tested it out and most batches fell between 180 and 190 proof.

thats a pretty amazing accomplishment, but it really is missing the point. i think he should go back and do it un-supported (ill even spot him 10 free slack-pack days)

That's not for me but, to each their own. And as long as he got what he wanted out of the hike I say good for him.

i wonder what the "record" is for un-supported thru-hike. i would be more impressed by that
