What Kind of Caterpillar Is This?

I found this caterpillar in Delaware yesturday in an estuary setting. One ended up in the canoe and I've since brought it home with me. I need to figure out what kind it is so I can give it the right leaves, etc. I'd like to see if I can get it to metamorphose into a butterfly/moth (if it's not a destructive invasive).

So far it's eaten the leaf I gave it yesturday. It also (pardon me) poops alot.

Any kept a caterpillar before? It's really quit neat.

Here's it's (actually a different sample of the same caterpillar) picture: http://community.webshots.com/myphotos?action=showPhoto&albumID=377759408&photoID=413252007&security=zlcVUT

Your link is bad. Set the caterpillar free.

This should work. I will try to take my own, close-up, shot of the caterpillar.

No, thankfully the mouse died not too long after I found it on my kitchen floor. However, it seems it had brothers and sisters...we need pest control to come to our apartment and blast the living snot out of the mice.

lol..not funny...but well kinda.

My daughter kept a snail for months. It lived well until we actually named it Jerry..then ol Jerry went caput.

Free the Catepillar....but if you keep it..just don't name it.

It's not a caterpillar. It's a piece of panty lint. Sell it on ebay.

Patratz - I've looked up several different types of moth caterpillars and my little guy doesn't look like any of them.

I also brought back a beetle...it's a Japanese Beetle. I'm going to let that one die.

I have no idea what kind of fuzzy that caterpillar is, but I've got 4 saddleback caterpillars doing a number to my lemon tree. Those things have stingers that are seriously bad news. They cause pain enough to send you to the hospital to beg them to cut your hand off.

Yep, many caterpillars can sting you. I have not allowed fuzzy to touch any part of me. I do not like things stinging or biting me. lol!

It's raining gypsy moth caterpillars
The gypsy moth caterpillars are out in force. I walked from my car to my front door, about 30’ and when I got in the house I had about dozen ¼” long caterpillars on my shirt. They were easy to spot on my white shirt, but I wonder how many were in my hair. Last year the woods here were stripped bare and this spring has brought perfect conditions for the little *(&#ers.

You're gonna need a huge jar of cayenne pepper. Spinkle it on all the trees, put it on your eggs, buritos, and tacos....that should do the trick!
