Uplinking for CBS I noticed that he didn't achieve his live shot and took it upon myself to rearrange the paramiters of my truck to accomidiate the ABC frequencies and give him some air time. He was a true professional that day and did not put down his own engineers or others on his news team but instead sent over a personal note of thanks "in person". Not many so called air talents take time to notice the efforts of so many others that are involved in reporting the news but He went out of his way to notify my boss,my bosses boss, and the owner of CBS that particular day what had occurred during that weeks top story. He was a gifted and sincere journalist that felt that if enough viewers got the skinny on the big stories , the viewers at home would become engaged enough to care about what was going on in their world. Truely a kind man and the consumate professional.”

“I loved Jennings - watching him got me interested in world events, starting as a pre-teen and continuing into my mid-20's. I drifted around to other offerings like CNN after that, but we went back to watch him for the several days during and after 9/11. We knew he would cover it right.

From personal experience I know that lung cancer can get you hard and fast and prayed it wouldn't be so for him. But God has other plans, as always.

Toward the end of Thursday's Larry King Live on CNN, on which Jennings appeared to plug his Thursday night special about Ecstasy and three-hour Monday night special, Jesus and Paul, King asked him about his impressions of Iraq after returning there a few weeks ago. Jennings replied:
"One of the really strong impressions I had, having been there for only 10 days, is this strange ambiguity because life is improving for people in Iraq in many, many ways, and the U.S. influence in Iraq is having, in many ways, a very significant influence. Our focus on the loss of American soldiers and now civilians on a sometimes almost daily basis, it gets so intense, somewhat I think overshadows what has been happening, in more general terms, in restructuring or structuring the country."
