We have to build up China so the 'defense' industry will have a guaranteed revenue stream for the next 50 years.

Gots ta have a new Boogeyman!  Russia is still rebuilding and al-Qaeda is mostly vapor.... Perhaps Persia can be a temporary substitute if we can set the whole damn thing on fire.

The veto? You mean the bill for funding desperately needed US infrastructure to supply OUR country with water and protect against disasters? Only a moron would have vetoed that. Oh yeah, look who we are talking about...

Those bridges will have to wait.

There are still a lot of bridges to burn in the Middle East and that costs a lot of money.

So .... only when we spend money on war does that generate a recession? What about when we spend it on stuff that states should be spending it on? Does that generate a recession? No? Why not? Because it's for the children?

Yup. Recession time. Thanks, Shrub!!!!!!!!!!!

The compounding nightmare of fiscal irresponsibility that has been the trademark of his administration has finally come to roost.

President Bush suffered the first veto override of his seven-year-old presidency Thursday as the Senate enacted a $23 billion water resources bill despite his protest that it was filled with unnecessary projects. - AP

“rosey - Did that veto of the veto piss you off?” - Sarge

Only a moron would have vetoed that. - rosey

Well, the banks maybe have just a little more Unreal Estate than expected. Daaaah, maybe a 5% raise in the capital gains taxes would have fought off inflation better than interect rates comming from 1% to 5 3/4% in a perfect stair step pattern.

If a bone head silly ass libby like myself knew better, why didn't these wonderful people that actually studied this crap in school knew it. Maybe they should have had a good old California liberal University education that allows them to think outside of a $200 a plate lunch?

Some estimate Eight Trillion Dollars in over estimated real estate is standing where trees should be.

Man, we were really moving the economy? Japans just now comming out of their 18 year period of correction for over priced real estate.

Sorry to disappoint, but I'm a real libertarian and believe in a fed that would be 25% of what we have. Does that sound like raising taxes? I also would like to get rid of the IRS and have fed value added taxes fund the small US government.

Because we have income taxes and rightfully lowering them helped give the economy a boost, why would not a raise (5% in cap gains) help fight inflation due to a over heated economy. Oh no, raising interest rates is the only inflation fighter, because strangly those who lend are rich and those that borrow are poor, the rich pay most of the taxes and the poor none. Ididn't design this mess, but sure wouldn't mind helping re-design it.

Uncliff...I am more of a Fair Tax supporter...my only problem with Paul is that I don't like where he stands on National Defense.

Okay Bush, has done a crappy job of the war. We have fought it like we were trying to win "Miss Congeniality" in the UN. I still wonder what would be happening over there if we had truly gone in with a rolling thunder attack like we did in the 40's. If we fought Fallujah like the Soviets fought Berlin.

I have no problem pulling back to our borders but my disagreement is with the strategy of isloationisim. I think we MUST be involved in the world, but I think we need to stop trying to be liked and try for RESPECT.

What we're doing doesn't work. Do you really think we could do what you think Paul whats in any of our lifetimes. Simply any change and especially that of less foreign aid and trade would prove that aleast a few of us have read the history of all the failed civilizations before us.

I think I agree....part of the reason that led up to the Charge of The Light Brigade was that England had been paying of the Afghan "tribes" for years. They finally had to stop the tribute and as a result the light brigade suffered an attack that wiped out a whole fortress.

The biggest thing we need to do is make sure if there is a WAR (and there will be one it is the way of MAN) that it will not be fought on our shores or in our cities.

"If we fought Fallujah like the Soviets fought Berlin."

First of all that's an incomplete sentence.

Do you mean if "we" had killed all the civilians that couldn't run fast enough?

That would be a war crime.
