Anyone heard it yet?

You call yourself a Christian, I call you a hypocrite/ You call yourself a patriot. Well, I think you're full of sh*t!... How come you're so wrong, my sweet neo-con.

I like it already!

I find it sad when the elderly try to be hip for no other reason than their own relevance. It’s like seeing your grandma in a spiked dog collar. A rock group being sponsored by a mortgage company is hardly a source for political enlightenment.

The Stones don't need money. They are obviously not in it for that.

I heard "Rough Justice" from the new album. Real good track. Gets back to their 'Tattoo You' days a little, judging from the sound of it. Looking forward to the new release...

A freakin' fortune. But, that's the nature of the business. The band doesn't need money. Are you aware of just how rich these guys are?

The guys who sell beer for 7 or 8 bucks a pop at a ball game aren't doing it because they need money either...

If they aren't in it for the money than why don't they charge $20 a ticket instead of $158 for seats in the noise bleed section?

You miss the point. It's a business. Why is a gallon of gas so damned expensive? The oil companies are hurting? Of course not. There are a lot of pieces of the pie to go around in the music business. It's HUGE money entertainment now. Just like sports is. All I said was that the band is wealthy. It's a fact. Do they need the money for survival? No! My guess is that all they ever knew in life was this! mking music. Perhaps they don't want to stop. Now, why are the tickets expensive? Just like other businessmen and women, they're not out to do us any favors. They're in it (as well as the corporations, A&R people, record company execs and all the others involved in this tour and CD release) as a business venture.

Good point Tree. It really is simple supply & demand. The ticket prices wouldn't be so high if people weren't willing to pay that much. I guess the real question is, why are people willing to pay that much?

Music and political/social activism goes back an extremely long way.

The stones are ok I guess. Usually decent music and they got a right to speak their mind and hell, none of us are a nonprofit venture.

However, it's kinda hard to be revolutionary when you are whoring product for "The Man".

Jagger's Jab — But Towards Who?
Wednesday, August 10, 2005
By John Gibson

"How come you so wrong, my sweet neo-con?" That line is from a song which was written and sung by Rolling Stone Mick Jagger.

A lot of people are talking about how it's Jagger taking a shot at George W. Bush. After all, underneath it all, he's still a Brit. He's in show biz, so that makes him a raving leftie and, of course, he hates George W. Bush.

But I don't think it's about Bush. I think it's about Condoleeza Rice.

"How come you so wrong, my sweet neo-con?" Can't you just see Mick's lips wrapping around those lines as he checks out Condi in her "Matrix Reloaded" outfit?

I used to work at Mick's record company. Took him to dinner once. It was 30 years ago. But there's no way he's singing about a guy — George W. Bush — even if it is political commentary. No way.

Well wait. He is getting old. But, still, no way.

My question is this: Since when is the world's biggest troublemaker getting all dewy-eyed and singing peace ballads? Come on.

This is the sympathy for the devil guy. This is the guy who can't get no satisfaction. This is the guy who if he tries sometimes just might get what he needs.

This is the guy who has inspired God knows how many American criminals, those tattooed, toothless types you see lurking around places you want to just keep driving through. They all sit around saying, "Well, hell, if it's ok by Mick, I guess it's ok by me. I'll just go beat somebody's head in with a pool cue."

Come on now. That happened and you know it did.

So "how come you so wrong, my sweet neo-con?" Come on, Mick. How come you so wrong about keeping Saddam on his throne? How come you so wrong back home there in Britain about those hate-spewing imams who won't harm anybody?

So you think this line is going to go down in rock history? "Can't always get what you want, I can't get no" and "how come you so wrong, my sweet neo-con?" I don't know. Let's wait and hear how he sings it.

Who knows? Good singers make bad lines sound good all the time.

That's My Word.

NEW YORK (Reuters) - It could be just what the world needs now -- Burt Bacharach writing lyrics.

The legendary, 77-year-old composer has found his voice in a politically charged album "At This Time" that features his first lyrics ever in a nearly 50-year career creating some of pop music's best-known love songs.

"You could say, 'How does a guy who has written love songs his entire life suddenly decide to rock the boat?"' Bacharach says about the album that will be released internationally on October 24, with a U.S. release on November 1.

"I had to do it. This is very personal to me," he said of his first solo album in 15 years.

Challenged by his producer to take risks, Bacharach responded with songs set to hip-hop beats with lyrics, co-written with Tonio K., expressing nostalgia over bygone days and frustration with U.S. political leaders.
[...]
Titles include the opening track, "Please Explain," that laments "Where is the love, where did it go;" the second cut, "Where Did It Go?" urges "Stop the clock, make it stop. Where is that world, where did it go?" and the most stridently political number, "Who Are These People?" sung by Costello.

That song, expressing disillusionment with the war in Iraq, forcefully asks, "Who are these people that keep telling us lies and how did these people get control of our lives and who'll stop the violence 'cause it's out of control? Make 'em stop."

"Stuff just kept going more wrong and more wrong here as I was writing," explained Bacharach, still looking youthful in a blue sweat suit accentuating his bright blue eyes.

Bacharach, who projected an image of the Hollywood good life in the 1960s and '70s during his marriage to glamorous actress Angie Dickinson, told of a political turning point that sparked his anger.

"I heard (then U.S. Secretary of State) Colin Powell tell the United Nations there are weapons of mass destruction. I totally believed him. I love this guy. He's like a hero. This was such a bad, bad blemish mark on his life, that he was so wronged.

"Then we go into Iraq. It looked like the heroic, right thing to do. It was the wrong thing to do. There was fabricated information. There are no weapons of mass destruction."
[...]
