So God hid a 400Ft Waterfall for 40 years in Whiskeytown National Recreation Area....how else can you explain it?

I have found some delightful little waterfalls in trailless hollows of the eastern mountains - neither marked on maps nor described in guidebooks. In some cases, the underlying geology said they would be there. In a few cases, I just stumbled upon them.

I always leave them there. Let other adventuresome folks find them on their own.

I imagine a waterfall would be kind of hard to carry out anyway.

I would call it a Cascade.

Althought it can be called a waterfall or a cascade, I apply the following:

If the water drops in stages, it is a series of waterfalls or a cascade. If the water drops in a single plunge, it is a waterfall. Either way, it is beautiful.

I'm packing this one out, my wife wants a "water feature" in the back yard.

I'm gonna research this today. I've already called a couple friends who are going to head in with me. If we get lucky I'll get pictures.

Temps are only supposed to be around a 100° this weekend, so it won't be too bad.

Oh yea..a big thanks super troll

check it out

That article makes me think about Bama, Uncle Wayne, and another fellowing stumbling on a 100' vertical fall at Sipsey that none of them knew about. All 3 are in the top 10 of living knowledge about the area.

Duh!
I just realized that yesterday, I sold rope and harness's to the crew doing work on the trail to the falls.

They talked about putting in a new trail and needed the gear for a section on a low angle slab of rock that required jackhammers.

Very cool. It's exciting to know that there is always the possibility of making new discoveries of things which are essentially right before our eyes. Neat.

speaking of the Sipsey falls, how about sharing some of the hints that Bama gave you :) I have the 'first' one but it doesn't help much...

toph - all I know is that it's not actually in the wilderness area and is somewhere S of cranal. He described it to me on email and when I realized it was off my map I cooled on trying to find it the weekend I was out there.

Uncle Wayne is a living encyclopedia of the Bankhead area.

If he wrote a book, it'd be a best seller.

ps-looked more 60 degree angle on TV, but was a close up in dense forest of a very small part.

Got back a couple hours ago. Quite a scramble right now, probably made worse by folks slipping and sliding along some rather sketchy sections of a very primitive, hacked out trail. The trail crew has a camp about a mile in. It should be open to the public in October.

I will post a minor TR and pictures in a bit.
