I haven't been able to sit or lay down on the ground in over 6 months. This evening I went outside and managed to get myself down on the ground. Getting back up was a bit more difficult, but I did it without assistance from anybody...except my walker. That was the only thing keeping me from camping, so it looks like I may at least be able to do some car camping this summer! :-)

My 7-year old daughter took this photo of me...

Are you injured or something? That will be awesome for you to be able to camp again.

Yes, you might say that. I was diagnosed with Lyme Disease last year. You can see the original post here: Living With Lyme

Whew, what a relief. I thought this thread would have something to do with HikerMike's thread about the weird kiddie ride that I initially thought was posted by you!

Good news, Mike, although not being able to sit or lie on the ground did have a silver lining - no sleeping where some pesky rock or pine cone would be poking you through your sleeping pad!

Thanks Pathman.

MHH, no kidding. I can't wait to walk with a cane again. Never thought I'd say that either.

BowlderMan, I thought he was me too! I'm looking forward to being bothered by such things!

Dayhiker, Sure sounds like it.

Congrats hikin Mike. Because of you I take the threat much more seriously instead of "oh it could never happen" You'll be hiking soon :)

Mike, that's great! I'm really happy for you! On a relatable note: Maple asked me last weekend if I felt like doing a quick overnighter near the radio station I work at on Saturdays. I told her that the pain in my shoulders would make it rough for me to sleep on the ground. And I am ecstatic to say that today, for the first time since I got diagnosed with Lyme disease, I went through the day with virtually no pain at all! The aches and pains can be really intense at times. Mike, I haven't been sick nearly as long as you've been. But, I know you can relate to such news. It's been getting really old, really fast! I hope it stays this way. We're going on our annual canoe trip to Saranac Lake in the Daks Thursday, and I want to be able to paddle without going into agony.

Keep us posted, Mike. And, may every day get better and better for you!

good luck mike,I guess the really scary thing about lyme is the wide range of symptons that make the disease hard to diagnose, reading what you went throughmakes me wonder if they are trying to come up with some better tests for lyme, I was tested last year with negative results, but now have to wonder whenever something aches if the test was wrong- glad to hear your getting better.

That's great news Mike! But with gravity and all...getting down was never a problem. Being able to get back up...now that's good news! :p

FLH, it appears to be a very unreliable test. I was in the hospital emergency room with severe symptoms at the beginning of July and the test taken that day was negative, whereas the one administered 3 weeks later was positive. Go figure...

tree what were the symptons that you had. did you have a bullseye rash or ever found a tick on you?

No, that's the funny part. We (doctor and myself) were convinced it was West Nile for most of that three weeks. I had extreme aches in every joint in my body, headaches, 101 fever, severe chills (followed by the sweats at times), dry mouth, weakness and fatigue. It was pretty rough for about 2 weeks. Glad the hospital gave me anti-biotics, even though the test was negative. Felt better, then got worse again.
